Does anyone know where to BUY an excell version that will work on a Win 98? Yes, it does have to be legal, before anyone starts on the wonders of file sharing.

Doubt it. I can hardly find Windows 98 itself. You might want to try ebay. They have everything over there, it seems.

that was random and useless...
anyway i doubt that you wil be able to find it anywhere legally, you have to be careful even with ebay. unortunately, there are unscrupulous people who use ebay to make money at any chance. just try searching on google and buying from a site that looks respectable.

I'm sorry, I would prefer not to take more weeks looking at google search results than it would take to get a new computer. Besides, it's another excuse to get a new computer. And while we're talking about my computer, does anyone know what it means when the brightness and contrast on the monitor are all the way up but images are darker than on any computer that you've ever seen, but everything else is normal? Is that usually a video card problem or something else?

I don't exactly know what it means, but you should try to make sure that your video card has the correct contrast/brightness settings, if it allows you change those parameters of course.

Speaking of Excel, why do you need it? If you're interested in a somewhat good substitute, you should try Open Office.

http://openoffice.org

I use it too, and I think the whole suite is great.

Not to mention the price $0 (aka Free)

Hah! try convincing my parents that open office works as a substitute to excel... I tried, and "No, I don't think that'll work", "why?", "I need to use excel"

You can download and install open office without telling your parents right?

Besides, you can have both Openoffice and MS Office on the same computer.

After a lot of searching, I finally managed to get to the point where I could honestly tell them that it is impossible to find...and graphics are all too dark...and the final result is: we're getting a new computer! so now I will have my own comp(yes, it's the old one, but I won't get yelled at if I put linux on it) and I'll get to use the new one when I have schoolwork that requires it, or my parents don't want to. Happy me. so, um, thanks for trying to help, but, I'm glad you couldn't come up with anything.
