do you actually think they could get organized enough to do something like that. the most organization iv ever seen is when me and a few friends took our assnt. principals jaguar (a very expensive car) and carried it to the city hall parking lot (~.5 miles away from school) we were lucky it didnt have an alarm on it (dumbass)
oh yeah... i was thinking, is your sharring folding the only thing they check when thier looking for their next victim, or is it like a fortune cookie and if you get "don't go outside today" you got a lawsuit to deal with?

An interesting twist in the event of RIAA lawsuits.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/biztech/09/24...s.ap/index.html

Not only is Kazaa suing the RIAA for, well read the article, but the RIAA has been targetting innocent people as well. Lastly, they have also broken one of the top rules of successful business "You DO NOT Sue your customers!"

Record sales have dropped 50% in the last 3 months. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the RIAA Monopoly, and a new beginning to which Artists get the money the deserve for the music they provide, rather then the middlemen (RIAA) stuffing it all.

Hahaha, great, great stuff.

It's about time though, that whole RIAA stuff is just one big mess of contradictory actions.

I mean, the police don't shoot at random people on the streets to see if they fire back so they can be arrested.

Oh well, happy dance!

Mp3s don't contain executable code. That is impossible. And why would someone make a compressed sound format with executable code anyway? Kinda against the point.

Yes it is true that some mp3 do contain executable code. Although this code is in an execuatble file.
A normal mp3 download would look like this (freakonaleash.mp3)
An mp3 that is not really an mp3, that has a trogan etc... would look like this
(freakonaleash.exe)
I've seen many users thy to pass off .exe files as songs.
The point is just don't be stupid and download .exe songs.

Yes, it's called filename spoofing, most of the files look more like this, though:
name.mp3.exe

It's also the main reason not to use kazaa (even kazaa lite); half the stuff you find is either something completely else, contains a virus, porn, spyware, or a trojan.

I never use explorer, so I have no problem with hidden file extensions... Unfortunately, there are many complete idiots using the internet nowadays. They are responsible for spreading most of the viruses (unlike the good old times when viruses were all little masterpieces of advanced coding)...

Actually, viruses are becomming much more complex and advanced.

For example, they go through adress books, open themselves due to MS security flaws, and turn off servers...

However, not only are viruses getting more advanced, computer users have become idiots for the most part. I bet that less than half even know a .exe is an executable file.

With better viruses and stupider users, the spread of viruses has increased signifigantly.

What you can do:

1. Not be an idiot
2. Use common sence

3. You need AntiVirus software only if you are paronoid, are an idiot, or have other users use the same computer.

4. Better than any Anti-Virus program is a firewall because with proper configureation, getting most viruses is difficult to do.

5. Other considerations, Dump Internet Exploerer and Outlook they are the two most dangerous browsers on the internet.

6. If you really want to be safe, you could install a different OS such as Linux, or you could avoid using the internet all together.

That's it, why not avoid using the internet.

Enjoy Live

You mean "enjoy life". is that what you meant by you had your humor back? i havent read your other posts yet so ill find out soon.

I use windows and internet explorer and i have only had a virus once. my sister is stupid. she downloaded an exe file posing as an mp3. viruses are getting more complex. partly because computers and programming languages are getting more complex. the virus my comp got wasnt very complex, it was written in vb and it took a little while to find it, del it, and fix the regs it changed.

I mean formerly you didn't have to be a complete idiot to get a virus. Once I got one_half... Smile That was an insidious one: if the virus wasn't active, you couldn't read you HDD, because it was encrypted by the little bastard. Of course, it couldn't be done on the present OSes.

You still can get a virus if you are not an idiot. If you use Outlook and auto preview is on, Outlook will likely open your attachements for you.

Therefore, some things are out of your controll.

BTW, I have had at least 6 viruses in the last year, and not one was my fault! I did manage to fix all but Backdoor/Sub 7 Trojan

You can download a trial version of Norton Antivirus, but whatever you do, DON'T install internet security.
