A few things that will help solve the problem-

Which editor are you using?
What OS are you using? (I am assuming Windows if you use the TI Program Editor)
What SP Pack?
How did you extract/install it?

I do not know what the error means, but I will look it up.

I am using TI program editor, Windows XP (my calc is a TI-83 Plus with OS 1.19), I don't know what you mean by 'SP' pack, and I used a link that Weregoose gave me for a .rar file. I don't remember the website, but meybe Goose will...

[Edit] Scratch that. I found the link on the first page of this post (duh). anyway, its http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

[Edit<again>] Sorry. That was the link to the winrar program. The actual file is an attachment on the previous page. I also attached it below...

When I try to open it in the editor, an error comes up saying:
"Cannot open the file {directory}. Unknown tag value in program image: 187 176" I have no idea what this means, and there is nothing there on the program editor help file. Any idea what this means?

This is just the editor complaining about lowercase letters in the program you are trying to open.
In order to edit you file in the editor, download ti-graphlink to open it.
Then just copy and paste.

Are you getting the error when you attempt to open a program?

Try installing the latest version of TI-Connect available from TI's website:
http://education.ti.com/educationportal/si...ti_connect.html

The installer will setup all the environment variables/paths and install the font (which TI revised btw)
