since a lot of people here knows C++, maybe we can make a converter from txt. to ti format!
i have a lot of etexts in my computer! 600+ last time i counted (legal)

and since Jusitn_w is working on Propad 2.0 maybe we can all work on that and convert it to an ebook reader!

Sounds nice.

If you need it available as an online version, ask me. I work miracles with Perl.

In fact, at one time, I was going to write a message board, but I decided not too.

Yeah, especially TI-83+ SE users would consider e-texts a good way of utilizing the 512 KB flash mem Smile
There is documentation available about the data formats of appvars and programs, so it shouldn't be hard to turn txt files into appvars using some C code.

Ummm David don't you mean 1540 kb of flash mem? I thought that the SE had 1.54 MB of Flash ROM.

David rounded.

Besides, there are 1024k in a megabyte, so if you multiply that by 1.5, you get 1536k which is within 4k which is within 4k of absolute accuracy.

Now, 1540k is not 1.54 megabytes, but is approximatly 1.50390625 or (1540/1024), so I would say David was closer than you because he said 1.5 megabytes.

Now, as for the ebook, it would be great if it used small text and wordwrap. Finally, it would need to be like Nifty with page breaks and have a bookmarking system.

Also, it would need to beable to use bcall(_flashtoram) to copy sections of an archived appvar into safe ram for reading without unarchiving.

Sounds great, I want a copy when done.

Well you're right about the size. I just was doing a quick judgment but David only said 512kb.

Well to tell you the truth.

From day to day, I actually think of a megabyte as 1000kb, a gigabyte as 1000000kb or 1000mb...

I do not really take into consideration the extra because it just tends to muck everything up.

Well, it wokrs great in hex.

So you are saying that you want to convert Propad2 from a word processor to an ebook reader. Will you be able to modify the documents on calculator? I mean if you want you can take over, as I will not be getting it done anytime soon because I am already very busy.

An etext reader is an awesome idea, though it is impossible to fit a whole novel on a regular 83+ (I tried). But, I was able to stick a couple chapters on at one time... If we could come up with some kind of text compression thingy...

we should wait for Jbirk to release his compression routine, cause it will be pretty darn good! maybe it will compress well, maybe not, because a compression routine works by taking consecutive numbers in a list and making them 2, 1 for the original number, 1 for the times it was repeated... so it may or may not work to compress...

The original was indeed in basic. I was writing propad2 in asm and kinda left it hanging because I got so involved with Fate By Fire. I think it would do better as an ebook reader anyways.

Yeah, RLE compression will not work for text, I don't think.
I can't remember the last time I saw a word with 4 h's in a row Smile

Wait, explain this to me. You want a prog that converts all text in a .txt into an asm program that you can put on your calculator to read, right?
