I've seen many tries at a duplicate of Dragon Warrior I, but I've never seen a completed one. I have the poster with all the enemies and their gold, hp, experiance; a map of where they can be on the map; and the entire overworld map and most of the towns and caves. I also have some picture sprites for enemies made up. If anyone wants to take on this project I can help. Although I don't have the time to do all the programming.
Here's one picture
here's another

Anyone interested?

I need to get a handle on assembly; however I'm very weary as to if I'll have the time to do it. Already I'm up to midnight on school nights, waking up at 6; meets are all day saturday and sunday is normally reserved for homework and free-time. Hopefully my schedule will lighten up in a bit; if it does then I can take on the project... if not...

How far did the previous one get. I can't program ASM because of my comp. old mac. I'd be willing to help someone else though. I'm starting to learn without a compiler, but working with someone I'd learn real quick.

I think dwedit only made a map demo. That was cool though, smooth scrolling greyscale Smile.

Good news. I just got Virtual PC for my mac and I can now prgm in ASM (once I finish learning). I like the Ion extras for ASM, if anyone knows a good tutorial for Ion I will take over this project, where is the code posted?

Someone made Dragon Warrior for the 86. I don't know if that'd help with anything, though.

I have put a little bit in, but right now I'm concentrating on the basic programming contest, and my school work. I go to a classical school and get at least 2 hours of homework a night. Mainly I've drawn some sprites, but that 86 program is a real help in that.

Dragon Warrior for the 86

Ok, they got a perfect replica made for the 86. I don't know anything about porting to the 84 from the 86, but if someone else could port it they would be my hero.

If you're still in search of a DW replica, there's also the legendary Joltima. They've got a real close resemblence. So far it's been ported to most Z80 calcs, even TI-73.

is the 86 version small enough? I think porting shouldn't be that hard. (correct me if Im wrong), but isn't it mostly changing the ROM calls, and areas of RAM it uses>

No, the 86s RAM is waay bigger than that of the 83+.
And it says that it takes a lot of that RAM. So you need to make it an app, which is a lot of more work. Especially since it's going to be multi page. You'll need to divide it in 16K pages, then make pagejumps.. it'd suck.

about 3 times larger if I remember correctly. The nice thing is that it 86 programs are nostub. The memory thing is awful though.

All code can be optimized. I've never seen (or I'm sure written) any code (except possibly the most simplest) that couldn't be made better.

The 86 version is about 43 kb and uses the entire extra wide screen, so you would have to cut down the width a bit. I don't know anything about making apps much less how to do 2 page apps so I could not possibly port it. I've played Joltima, it's not long enough. It only has like 2 hours gameplay if that. Dragon Warrior is awesome even though I've already beat it once for the gameboy and almost beat it on the NES
