Well... erm... ok then
No, your calculator is not broken. You need to install/download software called TI-Connect. From there you can right click on the files you want to send to your calculator and then click "Send To TI-Device..."

No problem! I misread your post; thought you were asking why the validating email wasn't sent Razz. Apologies.

www.education.ti.com

or www.ticalc.org for easier browsing; points to the same thing though!

That should go for introduction. :)

Anyway, ASM/asm stands for 'assembly', the lowest level language on the calculator (one step above machine code.) It's what the operating system is written on. More advanced programmers can make their own asm programs on the computer, compile, and send it to the calc for frightening speed and capability.

EDIT: To get asm programs to work you need to so one of two things, depending on the program.
1)Nostub programs don't need a 'shell.' It should say so in the readme. Use asm(prgmNAME to run them. asm( is found in the catalog.
2)Most programs require a shell, depending on the program. There are two 'main' shells for the 83+ series:
A)Ion. 'Installed' so that you just have to run prgmA, then browse files.
B)MirageOS. Application ([APPS] key), 'backwards' compatible with ion, but ion cannot run Mirage programs. Has some other cool features as well. It should come preinstalled on new calculators.

In short, you need a shell like MirageOS or NimbusOS. They are application files, free of charge, that you install on your calculator to give it more libraries and features. Launch the application and you will see the list of games. 2nd is equivlent to a left mouse click.

try getting MirageOS
some programs run off it, you can keep them archived to save a little ram. MirageOS is an app, mostly used for gaming.

EDIT:: try this.
it's a good tutorial if u know what your doing.

Add 3 for a trip to the hospital for the stroke that will ensue if you try assembly as your first programming language.

If you know C and Java, BASIC will be much easier to start with. Not that I don't recommend learning asm, but it's a bit of a shock.

More power to you then.

Don't forget to read the MirageOS user's manual. Plenty of tips and tricks that 90% of people don't know because they don't read instructions.

The silver cable connect to the USB port. The black cable goes to the COM port.

I actually recommend FastLink. It's... what's the word?... faster!

Add 11 more days for a trip to the hospital if u try assembly after having coded BASIC for 4 years and nothing else. Add 3 months if you have programmed TI-BASIC for 12 years *cough* *COUGH*then attempt at learning assembly
