It wouldn't eliminate Stratego-type games, but it would eliminate Stratego.

what if a game replicates features from another game...but obviously isn't the same (like how Advanced wars IS NOT a Fire Emblem clone, but they share MANY features)

also...is that falsh drive compatible with regular USB...and what computers?

what is Stratego?

And what about multiple scenario games...don't they involve strategy?

This flash drive is compatible with any computer with a USB port, running Windows, or supporting the FAT 16 filesystem in USB devices.

Most of the other questions on What specifically the requirements are, will remain unanswered until the rules are posted on September 1st, so as to keep anyone from getting an unfair head start on the contest. Likewise if you check the calendar I will not be around most of the time until then.

what is Stratego?
It's a board game where you have units of an actual army, corporals, leutenants, bombardiers, etc, bombs, and a flag.

The objective is to capture the opponents flag with one of your units. Your units can defeat opponent's units that are lower than them in rank (but you can't see what kind of unit an opponent's pawnthingy is), so a field marshall can defeat pretty much anything. Then there's the spy, who's the only low ranking unit that can defeat a field marshall, but he can't capture the flag. And finally the bombardier is the only unit capable of defeating bombs.

I see TiCalc put up a news article about the contest, maybe it'll get more entrants.

I can't find a mention for what calculator, so I'll assume this contest is for any...

Would TankWars be considered a strategy-type game? (See ticalc.org file 27914)

Would trying to find out the rules of this contest before they're announced be considered cheating?

It's for the 82 through 86 I think.

I was wondering the same thing! I was thinking of doing for the 89.

Unfortunately, at the moment the contest doesn't allow for 89s (Check the dropdown box for "platform" when you register). I cannot think of why and my best guess is that it stayed that way from the assembly contest in which 68k calcs would naturally not be allowed.

I suppose this could be changed, but it's a question of whether the TI-89 user, with its more advanced functions (such as dialog boxes and built-in sprites), wouldn't have an unfair advantage of someone with, say, a TI-83.

One might also wonder if an 84+ has an unfair advantage over a regular 83.

There isn't much much difference between those two anyways.

Edit: Regular 83... I'm an idiot

Not if they're going to be tested on the same calculator. If anything, the 84+ user would be at a disadvantage, because their program would seem to run faster. Regarding archiving, I don't think anyone will have time to come up with a game >24K.
(Now watch as some idiot goes and submits a 25K entry just to prove me wrong... )

If you programmed the thing on an 84+ you would make it so that it runs at a decent speed on the 84+. If it were then tested on an 83 it would run slower than expected.

Aren't they going to be tested on the calc they were made for though? And for people who don't have an 83+ probabaly ought to get the emulator so they can use all of the features of the z80 calcs.

Will we be able to use the Xlib App and/or any other asm/flash libs?

Three guesses, first two don't count.

There's a reason this is a BASIC contest.

They will all be tested on the calculator you program it for. That was largely a theoretical discussion.
