If you have only two slots for ram and one is already occupied by 64mb, and you have to by two cards with 128mb because the computer can only handle 256mb, is it bad if you remove the ram with 64mb that was the computers only ram in the first place? |

Nah. As long as the motherboard can run whatever the 128's are, just pop out the 64 and throw in the two 128's. |

Provided you have the right type of ram, you can just fill it up. |

Well usually if it doesn't work it just doesn't work.
I guess there is always a very slight possiblility of your computer catching fire. However, that is very rare.
If you buy the correct ram, and follow the correct procedures for installing it, everything should go smoothly. |

Yes its not that difficult and you dont need to worry about the RAM change. Youre not planning on doing this when the computer is on are you? ;-)
Just turn off the compy. Open the case. Take out the 64mb stick and put the two 128mb sticks into the slots. Turn on the compy and the BIOS should detect the RAM change and handle it for you. |

Koolman is correct.
The first step is to not worry so much and just do. Besides, RAM is the easiest hardware upgrade you can do!
The #1 mistake when inserting RAM is not seating it correctly.
Provided your computer is off, you buy the correct RAM, and you seat it properly, your upgrade will go smoothly, unless you crack the motherboard like I did once inserting RAM.
Open the little white tabs by pulling them out and down to make room for the RAM.
The 64 Mb stick should pop up when you do this.
Next, insert the ram
You should fell it snap way down deep into the RAM slopt! You will know when you got it right. It will be flush with no metal pins above the socket. Sometimes you need to rock it a little to get it all the way in, but make sure both ends slide all the way in!
Your Bios should recognize the RAM when you start your computer. You can run setup to make sure if you wish.

There should be some sort of bracket that puts the RAM in. Just push it and the 64MB ram stick should pop out. Then push the 128MB ram modules in and the brackets should click.
Oh yes. Use an antistatic wristband while you do so. |
