Stupid windows. I set up my pagefile to be on my D drive, and it was working fine for a long time. I go to defrag today, and I defrag my C drive where windows is, and I notice a bar of red this big <----------------------> that can't be defragged, and it says it is 'pagefile.sys'. I'm like 'what the hell?' I have a pagefile on D, not C. So I go look on C, and sure enough, there's a 1.5GB pagefile on C. I look on D, and theres nothing there. There used to be a pagefile, but for some reason it's disapeared.

So, I go and look in the pagefile settings. According to windows, there is no pagefile on C, and it is set up on D like I want it. Wtf?

I think you can delete pagefile.sys if it is not in use.

It should be recreated if needed.

It doesn't remove the pagefile if you choose to use another drive, just remove pagefile.sys.

There was never a pagefile there before with the same settings, and now when I go to delete it, it says it's 'In Use' and I can't delete it

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

Guess I'm going to go mess with the settings a lot again

Did you do a hard (not suspend/hibernate) reboot?

Does the D drive have sufficient space for the pagefile?

After half an hour of messing with it, it actually decided to make the pagefile on the right drive (which has about 40GB free Arcane), and I could delete the one on C with no problems. Yay

Usually you re-assign the page file and then do a reboot.

Somewhere durring the reboot widnows deletes the old pagefile and creates one on the new drive.

I've never had it delete the old pagefile for me, never in at least several dozen times of changing the drive it should be on (and rebooting).
