I've got a file on my windows drive, under C:\, called pagefile, and it's 1.572GB big. I'm going through trying to delete stuff and free up on some space on this drive, so .... can I delete this? I know it's something important, but I don't exactly know what it is, can someone help? Thanks

[EDIT] - After some googling it seems like this is normal ... but a 1.6GB file on this drive is rather annoying ... :(

[EDIT 2] - Would it be possible to switch this pagefile over to another drive, and have everything run the same?

It's your virtual memory, stuff that doesn't fit in RAM will be put in the pagefile, and moved back into RAM when it's needed. (that's called paging, and it's slow as hell)

When you boot up the pagefile is fairly small, but you can set up a minimum size (so Windows doesn't have to change it constantly) and a maximum size in Window's control panel.

Mine more RAM!

Well, I moved it to another, faster, bigger drive, and increased the size by a gig or so, and everything seems to be running smoothly.

It is best practice to manually set the size and leave it alone.

If it is too big, manually set it to a smaller size and restart your computer. Let Windows handle the resizing.

As for improving the performance, if you need a big swapfile, you are better off adding more memory and then manually reducing the size.
