Hi,

On Monday, April 11, 2005, AlienCC will be implementing a new server for United-TI.

As stated before, the current server is only a temporary server, which is not very fast but gets the job done.

The new server is going to be about Twice as fast as the current server, and run OpenBSD instead of Linux. OpenBSD is a highly secure, stable, and reliable server OS. As with any Linux System, OpenBSD is based off of Unix, and is fully Posix compliant too. OpenBSD has been around for a very long time, and is a more mature than Linux. We feel that OpenBSD will be more efficient for Serving Websites, Handling Dynamic Content, and running Email Services.

As for Stability, some OpenBSD systems have been running for over 3 years without a reboot.

You can check out OpenBSD at http://www.openbsd.org/
As for Statistics, you can go to http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/today/top.avg.html
You will see that BSD comes out on Top. You can also look up many other statistics at http://netcraft.com

We are now running on the new server, but due to several unexpected problems along the way this process took several hours longer then planned. The Main page is still down for the moment.

Update:
Among many things that went wrong, it appears as though a few of our members forum account were "nuked" as I was so informed, well I've gone ahead and restored them all from a previous backup while keeping the existing ones in tact.

If you notice any other problems with the forum, please send me a PM, Email [jon (dot) r (dot) johnson (at) gmail (dot) com], or an IM.

Thanks,

Most of you know that today the Forum was down for Database maintenance the majority of the day.

Essentially the mysql server itself was unstable which was the source cause of the forums going up and down over the last few days, this has been resolved. Additionally I have merged the forum database with an old backup to restore missing posts, polls, topics, and the BlueGlass theme.
