I have an IP address of a computer that is somewhere in my town, but not on my network. I need to get the computer name, NOT hostname, of this computer. Maybe there's an easy way to do this and I'm not thinking, but any help is greatly appreciated.

[EDIT] None of you computer guys can help me out here? Nooooone knows? :`(

Sure, look for info on "NetBIOS computer name".

You can use a program like Angry IP Scanner (though I'm sure there are better ones.)

No, whois wont help, I need the computer name, not host name. Trying Angry IP Scanner now.

[EDIT] - Angry IP Scanner gives me a nice N/A in the comp name column. :(

Chances are not good that you can get a hold of the computer name.

Your only chance is to try to connect to the computer. NetBios is handled through TCP 135. If they have a firewall blocking it, and they should, you cannot find its Computer Name.

You might try connecting to it via UNC path.

To do this, \\ipofcomputer

Probably won't work.
