After exhausting my 4 day weekend from school, I buckled down to do my homework. When I opened my bag, I grabbed my calculator. When I went to turn on the TI-83+, there was junk all over the screen - comparable to what a printer does when the drivers don't work correctly. When I hit clear, nothing happened. I removed all of the batteries, including the backup battery, and waited for 90 min. When I returned, I placed all of the batteries back in the calaculator and powered it on. The screen now is obviously coming on, with no junk on it. However, there is no cursor, and the display does not display anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit:
Here is a picture of what I see now, after smacking the calculator around a little and upgrading the OS:

Does it still function quasi-normally? What I really mean is, can you get to regular menus and stuff? If you can, reset all memory. Sometimes that does the trick.

Maybe the batteries weren't out long enough for all the power to drain? If leaving them out for 12-24 hours doesn't work, I think you're screwed. Do you have a warranty on the calc?

Here is an update on the situation..

I got an email back from TI, they pretty much said since I bought it used etc etc that I was fucked to high hell.

I have since taken the pointy end of a flathead screwdriver to my ex-bestfriend. Eat Shit and Die, 83+. I will be buying an 84+SE later tonight.

It looks like there is noise on your display port and the LCD controller is running junk commands. Somebody probably opened it.

I assume you tried upping the contrast.

i think that's automatically set to standard if all the batteries were removed and put back in.
