I'm not looking for the latest, top of the line computer, just something that will run a reasonable number of programs without bogging down like crazy. I'm just looking for a tower, possibly even a barebones system, and I wanted to see what everyone's suggestions might be.

It'll be replacing a Pentium II and 12 GB hardrive, so just about anything will be an improvement.

Thanks!

Build. Dirt Cheap.
Even $300 gives you a 2GHz machine...

Yeah, make sure you build it yourself, if you buy from dell or somewhere, you'll be throwing on a few extra hundred bucks and it won't be exactly what you want. Give us a range of what you might want to pay, I'll run some numbers for ya

I'd like to build this computer, but I'm actually looking for a prebuilt (gasp!) system this time. I know I'll pay a little extra and/or get a lower quality machine, but it's nice to be guaranteed everything will work together. (Not having to worry about form factor, power supply, etc.)

I was also possibly thinking along the lines of refurbished, but I'm open to ideas. What brands have a reputation for offering fairly quality systems pretty inexpensively?

Thanks again!

Fair price for a complete system if you ask me, though I'm no fan of ordering stuff online. Quality defenately won't be a problem.
