I have bought a DVD-Drive from a friend, but it can't play DVD's . It works okay if i put a CD in it, but when i inserted the 8 Mile DVD it just loaded for a few minutes and then acted like the drive was empty .
Is this a software problem? If i just need to install the drivers than it's okay, but if the DVD player is broken, it would suxzzoorrz
Does anyone know how i can fix this? |

Test with other dvd's, maybe it's just the dvd that's scratched.

If you don't know exactly what kind of dvd drive it is, use aida32, it'll probably also give a link straight to a website hwere you can download the latest drivers.

You probably need a DVD decoder. At least, I think that's what it's called... |

o, i already know what the name is, it's Samsung SD-608. I found it in Windows Device Manager (or whatever 'apparaatbeheer' is in English).
I tried opening it from My Computer, but that didn't work. I also tried PowerDVD and DVDecrypter.
And my avatar is XP-tan from the OS girls. |

The way I see it there are at least 3 possible problems:
1) You still haven't installed the correct/latest drivers.
2) It's the disc, not the drive.
3) You dropped it during transport and broke it. (CD/DVD drive's can't take much)

probably yes, i couldn't find them

DVD players are supposed to play DVD-video are they? The disc i tested was 8 Mile.

it still works for regular CD's. |

Download aida32, just do it.

I have already downloaded it. Where is the link to the drivers?

I have the right region, and the disc plays okay in the DVD player that's connected to the TV. |

Try using the program (for more than 2 seconds), look around, read what it has to say about your hardware, you'll find it. |

Guys, DVD drives need decoders to play DVDs. If it works with regular CDs, then it's not a hardware or driver problem. |

To play it yes, but a decoder won't make the OS see that there are files on the DVD, that can very well be a hardware problem (yes, even when CD's work perfectly) or a driver problem.

What has been tried is a DVD movie, not a DVD with data files on it. |

yeah, i don't have a data DVD here.
But if you put a DVD movie in the DVD Drive, you should see some files in Windows Explorer. |
