I have bought a DVD-Drive from a friend, but it can't play DVD's Neutral . It works okay if i put a CD in it, but when i inserted the 8 Mile DVD it just loaded for a few minutes and then acted like the drive was empty Neutral .

Is this a software problem? If i just need to install the drivers than it's okay, but if the DVD player is broken, it would suxzzoorrz Mad

Does anyone know how i can fix this?

And you haven't installed the drivers because you figured all hardware needs drivers to work, except this dvd-rom drive?

Did it work at your friend's place?

Test with other dvd's, maybe it's just the dvd that's scratched.

If you don't know exactly what kind of dvd drive it is, use aida32, it'll probably also give a link straight to a website hwere you can download the latest drivers.

aida32: http://www.webattack.com/get/aida32.shtml

You probably need a DVD decoder. At least, I think that's what it's called...

o, i already know what the name is, it's Samsung SD-608. I found it in Windows Device Manager (or whatever 'apparaatbeheer' is in English).

I tried opening it from My Computer, but that didn't work. I also tried PowerDVD and DVDecrypter.

And my avatar is XP-tan from the OS girls.

The way I see it there are at least 3 possible problems:

1) You still haven't installed the correct/latest drivers.
2) It's the disc, not the drive.
3) You dropped it during transport and broke it. (CD/DVD drive's can't take much)

It can't play the disc if the disc is damaged, there's also the little matter of regions.

I have the right region, and the disc plays okay in the DVD player that's connected to the TV.

Try using the program (for more than 2 seconds), look around, read what it has to say about your hardware, you'll find it.

Guys, DVD drives need decoders to play DVDs. If it works with regular CDs, then it's not a hardware or driver problem.

To play it yes, but a decoder won't make the OS see that there are files on the DVD, that can very well be a hardware problem (yes, even when CD's work perfectly) or a driver problem.

What has been tried is a DVD movie, not a DVD with data files on it.

yeah, i don't have a data DVD here.

But if you put a DVD movie in the DVD Drive, you should see some files in Windows Explorer.
