Well, I don't know if it needs 2, but it does have 2 connectors, and the articles i've read say they both need to be connected, although they also say that you can get away with using a y connector to power them both.

Maybe it's optional so you can still use the cards if you don't have any free 4-pins connectors left? Y connector is (female?) 8 pins right?

I don't think electricity is optional for a video card...

No I mean that you have to connect it to something, but they made it so you can choose between connecting a 4-pins connector or an 8-pins connector. I mean, what if you don't have any more 4-pins connectors available for your videocard? This woudl be a nifty sollution providing you still have 8-pins connectors free.

8-pins? what's that, the floppy drive power connector?

but no, it has two 4-pinned ones, it's supposedly very power hungry.

That's not too bad...

Still very power hungry though to take more power than the PCI slot dishes out.

*sigh* You don't know anything about video cards do you?

1. It uses the AGP slot
2. Most modern cards need a connector from the PSU

Well, it could use the PCI slot, a lot of them do...

Does your vid card go into an AGP 8x slot?

I say all of this because the video card I have now is connected to the PCI slot and does not have a PSU connector on it.

Yes, it's AGP 8x, and how old is your card?
