LOL, this program uses its own interrupt routine for the timing to make its speed constant. Greyscale isn't possible with such CPU intensive games on the 83(+), because it requires you to send data to the LCD all the time (unlike the 86 for instance which has a memory mapped LCD). It is good for RPGs with still pictures or probably some sprites moving around, but not for such arcade games.

So I'm assuming that you're using the Z address on the LCD for the fast scrolling? If so, I'm very impressed. (And yes, that would make grayscale utterly impossible. Period.)

Z address? No, that wouldn't help, because the LCD can hold 64 lines only, so modifying it would do nothing but wrap the picture around. This is all done from software. The whole screen is redrawn for each frame, so it isn't really a big deal.

Of course it blurs, but this effect can be decreased if you set a higher contrast. Despite the blur, the game is quite playable, and the ball doesn't disappear because of the fast movement (because by following it with the "camera" its on-screen speed becomes small enough).

I don't know. The engine is almost finished, but the tables still need to be designed and the menus are missing (the menu engine isn't ready either).

Its real easy, and that is how you make greyscale.  Don't use any of those greyscale packages because they are too slow.

LOL, you obviously don't know CoBB very well, do you? Laughing

Not at all. To tell you the truth, I don't know that much about interrupts (or greyscale).

CoBB is pretty much the ASM Guru. His tutorials on z80 were the best until Sean McLaughin's 28 day came along. They're still good, but they're focused on z80 in general, not 83+ specific. That's why Sean's tutorials are a bit more useful.

Nah. I actually think it's pretty stupid ASM Guru is called ASM Guru. Just like most good program names have been used by Kerm Martian. What a waste.

Hey, I resent that. I try to develop programs that live up to their titles.
