None of my calculators are engraved with my name, and for safe keeping I keep them stashed at home in random places such as boxes in the closet, on my desk, in the filecabinet, etc. These models include(1 x Ti-82, 1 x Ti-83, 1 x Ti83plus, 1 x Ti-83plusSE, 1 x Ti-85, 1 x Ti-86, 1 x Ti-89), but I find myself alwaysing using "bc -l" in linux, or just "calc" in Windows for math when required.

Which works only half the time. And to use it legally you need a calculator.

Now, I've split this topic up so that this one might return to the original topic, perhaps, yes?

The split topic's title is "Fighting" and can be found in the Open Topic forum.

Indeed. Time to review the more recent posts about the topic and see if it can be put back on track...

Maybe it'd be a cool idea to cut out a square part of the cover and replace it with a metal etching of your name or something nice?

One calculator I saw had a metal plate of sorts that had been screwed onto the back of the calculator. It had the owner's name and contact info. I thought that was kind of interesting...

I think it'd look better if it wasn't screwed on, and you can make really beautifull etches on metal, should provide for some nice results if you have the patience and skills to etch.

I don't know what to use to keep the metal plate in place though, I doubt just some glue on the sides is gonna do it, maybe use epoxy to glue some smaller plates along the edges on the inside?

What if you kind of put some little... what're they called... grooves or something for the plate? Perhaps have it slide in some how?

Hmm... Neutral

How about making a custom medal Battery Cover thingy? That would be tough but a skilled metal-person could do it...

Hmm... I'm gonna ask some of my fellow classmates on the trade part of my H.S. to try to do that when the year starts!

A conductive metal battery cover? Bad move... May short out batteries.

Maybe a small metal plate on top of the plastic batterycover (you may need to make the plastic thing thinner for better results)

You could also just put electrical tape on the back of the metal and put it in that way.

another argument's brewin'...

Well, what if you put the case on the back of the calculator? Will it fit your way? If you had the metal formed exactly to the same dimensions as the current battery cover then it should make no difference.

it would fit, but you have to make it very thin, more like Aluminium foil. Or you have to use sandpaper to make the original plastic thing thinner.

Yeah; I can see someone with a sander on it, bending it into all kinds of weird shapes Laughing. What if you took a stencil with your name on it, put it over the battery cover, and spraypaint it with silver or something so it comes out looking like metal?

You can't etch something as thin as aluminium foil, I'd go for the tape on the inside.

I don't think metallic spraypaint gives the same feeling, an actual metal plate looks heavy or at least matally, paint wouldn't give the same effect., and it would wear off

Not if you use automotive paint or krylon.
