It's not all that tough. I'm working on a project similar to Pixpand, but I will make it a lot better. I will be using Playstation Memory Cards as the main storage media. I have already made an interface to hook up Playstation Memory Cards to the computer that is of my own design and I suggested that you work on the N64 Memory Card as the main storage unit so that there is more than one video game memory card external storage for the calculator out there. http://www.zophar.net should get you off to a good start.
