I was looking through ti83plus.inc, bored with nothing to do, when I found a few lines under the keypress equates.

kdbSquare equ kDiamond+58
kDiagOn EQU kE2BT2+150
kDiagOff EQU kE2BT2+151

Then there were a bunch of "dia" keys like:

kDiaA
kDiaB

and so on. The same thing applied to square keys. However, no flag related to diamond appeared. Can someone please explain this to me?

The diamond ones refers to the "shift" key on the TI keyboard. No idea what the squares are though...

The shift key, as it turns out, isn't the diamond thing. There are two special keys on the keyboard, a diamond key and a square key, for added shortcuts.

I wonder if anyone could make an interrupt to add diamond and square buttons to useres without a keyboard? It would be a great addition to any apps.

What I mean is, let's say, you press 2nd twice, you would be able to access an entire new set of keys if you didn't use a keyboard.

Well... that would be something different. You could do that in pretty much the same way lowercase is done. It's not really a "diamond" key or a "square" key. It's just another tap of the same button to get to more features.

no, you couldnt...

lowercase is done by a simple flag set/res

this would have to include hooks and a bunch of other crap...

the main thing the diamond and square keys are for is to add it so that something like diamond+1 would be like pressing Y= etc.

no added functionality is used with diamond or square keys. (that would be useful without the keyboard)

Hey, speaking of the TI keyboard, has anyone ever considered hooking up one of these to a TI?: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/ibizpda/vike.html

What do the diamond/square keys actually do?

I would imagine they are used in much the same way as we might use the ctrl key or the alt key. Just shortcut keys, nothing more.

true... like diamond+Q == 2nd+Quit
diamond+1 == F1(Y=)
diamond+2 == F2(Window)
diamond+3 == F3(Zoom)
diamond+4 == F4(Trace)
etc. etc. etc.

look in the .pdf manual to know more...

I don't think that would be useful much on the normal keyboard...
