http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ I like this one for windows, supports a whole whack of languages(including z80) and has a built in spellchecker and you can make macros(like links to bat/make files), enables you to add bookmarks to places in your code, hotkeys to comment/uncomment your code, all while being a small download and lightweight, and that's just the tip of the iceberg

EDIT: oops thx tyskis

tried that.
crimson: 1.10 mb
jedit: 2.08 mb

jedit has WAY more features than crimson, and the syntax highlighters work better (my mIRC one can handle custom identifires and custom commands, the crimson one cant. i havent tried the z80 highlighter, i will soon though)

plus, with crimson, you can only have so many highlighters loaded at once, with jedit you can load them all (crimson only loads like 25 or so)

i can live without 10 languages, and when i need them, ill just write the highlighters.

to sum it up: jedit is better for most people.

The fact that it's a bigger file doesn't say anything...

I didn't like any of them Smile

heh you don't know the true meaning of a great text editor, until you've mastered vi(if you're a lightweight programming textpad kind of person(like me)), or EMACS(if you want a text editor with more features than you can shake a stick at).

http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/ I can easily guarentee you that jEdit has nowhere near the features of eMacs, just judging by the size of the manual(EMACS one being a series of books and all)

PS: If you want good linux utilities without having to install linux, you should look up knoppix
