Not defective, just old and very used. My old plus did that too. I lost a lot of stuff thanks to ROM corruption. Flash drives are up to 2 gigs now. Why doesn't TI put one of those on a calc? Memory would never be an issue again. Come to think of it, the 84s have a USB port! You could write some calc software and use a flash drive right from that.
