Actually I don't know where you got that statistic, but in reality it is upwards of 1,000,000 complete writes/erases. Trust me it'll take a heck of a long time to ever corrupt your Flash. Your calc is likely to die as a result of some other cause before you even come close to corruption.

Actually, it's erases, not writes.
I think it's something like;
rated for 1,000,000
guaranteed for 100,000
likely to last for 10,000,000

or something like that. It'll last a long time. If it lasts 1,000,000 erases, at ___ erases a day, you have ___ days to destroy it=___ years;

2,000:500:1
1,000:1,000:2
500:2,000:5
200:5,000:13
100:10,000:27
20:50,000:137
5:200,000:547
2:500,000:1369
1:1,000,000:2739

or if it only lasts 100,000 erases;

2,000:50:0
1,000:100:0
500:200:0
200:500:1
100:1,000:2
20:5,000:13
5:20,000:54
2:50,000:136
1:100,000:273

In other words, you will die before your calculator does.

What about the lithium battery? I have never had to replace that. Does it give any sort of warning when it goes low?

It's only in use when your operating batteries are either dead or removied. This is how you'll know: When your 4 AAA's get low, you will get the low battery message. If you don't replace your batteries but stop getting that message, it means the AAA's are dead and you're running off the backup. When that gets low, you will start getting warnings on that one.

I thought the backup was only in use to prevent archive memory loss when you take out the other four.

The backup battery is meant to reation information in memory while the four main batteries are being changed. I think it's mainly for the RAM though...

Well the ROM doesn't need power to keep its data.

The reason many people believe that you lose your WOM when you take out both sets of batteries is because the calculator loses it's table of information that tells it what's in the WOM. Simply reset your RAM after replacing the batteries in this way and all your WOM should be back where it was.

Umm, most people I know refer to it as the "ROM" (read only memory). What would WOM stand for?

"ROM" means "read-only-memory". "WOM" means "Write-only-memory". The Flash on the calc is WOM, not ROM.

So you can write to it, but you can't read from it? What would be the point of that?

actually, you can read, but not write... you can archive, and then the ti-os writes, but you cannot write.

reading is fairly easy actually.

Is there such a thing as "write-only memory"?
