A clever piece of engineering if true, but in the comments they raise a good point about file headers...
I believe that it has 128MB of storage or something masquerading as 500GB; what I don't believe is that it loops AVIs. I think it probably just gets full when you load 128MB of data onto it. Then again, there could be some clever coding going on, in which case, kudos to the coders, and make sure you're buying from somewhere reputable to everyone else.
It seems like the drive is smart enough to avoid wiping the VAT while looping over specific files. I'd bet it would be that hard to do, but I don't know enough about the low level file allocation stuff to be sure.

If it could only store a single file, it would be easy to make seeking to FileOffset go to FileOffset%FileRealLength, which would indeed do the looping described. With more than one file, though, I'm not sure how it would decide when to start looping and when to continue to grow into (limited) free space.
