The TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition is the first color-screen TI-83/TI-84-series calculator produced by Texas Instruments. It was first discovered in November 2012 by a Cemetech forum member, 0rac343. This calculator will be available in Spring 2013, with a 320x240-pixel color screen, a z80 CPU, and a rechargeable battery. The operating system will be based on the existing TI-84 Plus OSes, meaning that existing textbooks and tutorials will apply to the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition (also called the TI-84+CSE).

The TI-84 Plus will use a form of the existing operating system, but with a homescreen that is 26 columns and 10 rows instead of the 16x8 of the older calculators. All BASIC and ASM program and Apps that directly access pixels and the screen will need to be ported.

The TI-84+CSE supports both TI-BASIC and ASM. All ASM programs and some TI-BASIC programs are not compatible from previous versions.

5. History of the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition

The TI-84 Plus C news was revealed by Cemetech user 0rac343 in a forum post on Cemetech on November 8, 2012 when his class received a beta-testing set of TI-84 Plus C calculators. Cemetech codified the information he discovered in a Cemetech news article about the TI-84 Plus C that received hundreds of thousands of visitors from Slashdot and other tech news sites. Four days later, with the help of Cemetech member Vijfhoek, Cemetech revealed further details about the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition, including its 21KB of RAM and 3.5MB of user-accessible Flash ROM. On December 12, 2012, an official source from Texas Instruments contacted Cemetech to reveal the first official details from TI about the new calculator, and also mentioned that a press release would be available in early January 2013.

The official press release arrived on January 18, 2013, but did not add any information that was not already common knowledge in the community. In late January, Pat Milheron, one of the engineers who created the original TI-83 operating system, shared screenshots of the first TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition game with Cemetech, an ASM port of his TI-86 game "Pede".
