If you want to do a quality job measuring the speed of a command, I think it would be best to test the command on each calculator -- TI-83, TI-83+, TI-83+SE, TI-84+, and TI-84+SE. This way you cover all the bases and everyone is happy. It doesn't matter to me what timing standard you guys want to use, just as long as it's consistently used. Wink

When I was going through some of the command pages today, I noticed that text by itself seems to get somewhat monotonous. I also took a look at TI-Freakware's tutorial, and the one thing I really like about his tutorial is that he has calculator screenshots which show commands being used. So, I thought it might be a good idea to include that in the wiki. We could place the image before the command summary at the top of the sidebar. What do you guys think about this? Would it be worth the effort?

I believe it would be valuable to novice programmers. Possibly to more advanced programmers as well. If I get some free time, I'll do it, but do you mean demo screenies like they have in the manual?

Yeah, I think the screenshots like they have in the manual would work. If you get really fancy, you could even do animated screenshots. Cool Whatever you guys thinks works best is fine with me.

Now that I've got PindurTI working properly, I could help a little. I'll make a few and PM them, just not now. I have to go to a piano lesson soon...

Right now I'm working on making screenshots for the whole catalog. When I'm done I'll post them to this topic in a zip file, and everyone who makes a new command page can use them. They'll be still images, but I can do animated ones too, and I might if I think a command needs/deserves it.

The entire catalog? Neutral
Commands that deserve it? How about seq( ? (or maybe binomcdf( ? ).

seq( can be adequately demonstrated with a still image. Commands that are used in programs, on the other hand, might not be so fortunate. The ones that I've been forced to use animated images so far were DiagnosticOn and DiagnosticOff, and I have doubts about several more.

Edit: I've got midway through the P's, out for today. So far I have animated versions of the program-only commands (with still equivalents), and several commands are animated only because I didn't know how to show them in another way. I also skipped several finance commands because I don't know what they do (the ones I did understand, I made screenshots of).

I'm done! Screenshots are in attached file. I skipped some commands because I couldn't think of a way to make screenshots of them, and most finance commands because I don't know what they do, but 99% of them are done.

Edit: updated several months later to include the updates that alexrudd will add further down in the topic... this feels like time travel. spiffy.

They look great. Is there going to be an explanation of what they are use for? mostly those first few that have to do with standard deviation.

Whoa! You went through for every single command? Nice work. I can see the time it took you.

I just tested it now. Looks great.

EDIT: Got rid of that pesky frame at the end, and optimized the file to 50% of its size.

EDIT: Did the same for all the animated ones. See attached zip. Tell me if I missed any.

Unless my zip software is misleading me, you're missing all of the images past the letter L.

Also, in Opera, the screenshot doesn't appear to fit onto the sidebar - it goes off the right edge. Can any HTML gurus here tell what's up with that?

You did an awesome job with the images! They look very nice. Smile The image flowing out of the sidebar is actually what is supposed to happen. To correct that all you need to do is increase the width of the sidebar; I just set the width of the sidebar to 16em. It should work fine now.

Erm, no it's right. I'm not sure why. I'll post the rest when I get the chance. (read: switch to my other computer)

He was only fixing the animated images, the still ones were fine already.

I was looking at the If command page today and noticed that there was no mention of Boolean conditionals. I added a brief paragraph myself just so there was something, but I was wondering whether you guys wanted to include that information on the If command page or give it a page of its own? The Boolean logic and operators optimizations on the optimization page would probably be the extent of the Boolean content that would be included.

Don't we already have a page or at least a section on that? If so, I'd write a short paragraph on it, then link to the other page.
