Say you want to increase A with 2, the new value would equal A+2, so:
A+2->A

Well, lists cannot be deleted as easily by a user or a program, that is, if you wish to keep the value and not reset it. Programs often use variables and could change the one with the money, so the money would change. If you reset the money to zero everytime you run the program, you don't need a list.

Wait, I just realized you were actually right, I forgot you can add single numbers and lists.

It's still better to get into the habbit of putting the (x) in there just so you don't forget to do it when you need it. You can always optimize it out later.
