TI and NASA Announce "mISSion imaginaTIon"

TI has been gradually increasing their efforts to promote STEM through fun student-centric activities, starting with STEM Behind Hollywood in August 2013 continuing with STEM Behind Health in April 2015. Now, TI has introduced a new initiative called mISSion imaginaTIon in a four-year partnership with NASA. According to the blurb on the page, the goal of the program is to "[e]ncourage middle grades and high school students to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and engage them in the problem solving, reasoning and modeling practices that STEM professionals use every day to support the International Space Station." The program will be expanded throughout the duration of the partnership; so far, there's a quiz and a design challenge, with TI-Nspire activities coming soon. The online quiz asks you about life on the International Space Station (ISS), and when you complete the quiz, you have a chance to enter to win one of ten prize packs that contain a TI-Nspire CX, a TI t-shirt, and stickers. The design challenge, entitled "Destination: Mars", tasks students with considering food appropriate for a space mission, how to deal with trash and waste in space, coping with cabin fever on a long mission, and protecting craft and astronauts from space debris. We're excited to see how this initiative progresses, and hope that TI might consider including the TI-84 Plus family activities in the future.
