Today around 12:45 PM EST the next Pope was announced. Pope Benedict XVI, previously the German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, has succeeded John Paul II as the supreme pontiff for the 1.1 billion Catholics in the world. Pope John Paul, who was generally considered one of the more liberal popes of the twentieth century, is followed by one who many consider to be quite conservative. It is yet to be seen if he continues John Paul II's interfaith dialogues and more.
