We hope so. It's going to be a good program. Guaranteed a bit simple gameplay, guaranteed fun.
You know what, in order to help them and show them this site is more welcoming than what they've come to think, I'll be in that contest and join their group.

Jon, plz2not hurt Cemetech's image that I have spent over 6 years building up as a welcoming, friendly community, kthxbye.
[disclaimer]The opinions I express are my personal opinions and not necessarily those of Cemetech[/disclaimer]

That being said, I still refuse to welcome them as a group, although I certainly have no objection to their joining Cemetech.
Fair enough. Now that we got that resolved, let's get back to the topic at hand. How's the contest going?
The contest is going great. At least 10 people have said they will enter.
We've personally invited someone (who none of you know) to enter, and we are also going to be sending out invitations to enter either today or tomorrow. If you get an invitation, it means you have a good chance.

DRR is not super original, but from what I'm planning (and I only plan what I know how to code), it should prove we aren't n00bs.
Yeah birdman it's not good to say something like that to an experienced programmer, especially someone with as much experience as Jon. It's that kind of talk that got him started in the first place. Anyways I was going over your rules. Does it really need to be a new program? Can't I just submit one of the ones I already have on ticalc.org? If not then you might want to give people some more time, so they can make some better projects. If you won't let me enter some of my previous projects, I suppose I might start on a Battleship sort of game. Just remember what I said and watch what you say.
Battleship sounds fairly original. What about Nuclear Battleship (Foxtrot reference if you read it).
Nuclear eh? That gave me a good idea. Yes it gave me a great idea. Anyways such a project shouldn't be too hard to code in BASIC, as I haven't quite reached that level in Asm.
I'll see if I can find a link to the cartoon I'm talking about...
Oh well, can't find the exact strip. Bah.
We want to see people working on a limited time scale- very limited. You don't have to finish, better not finish than sloppy. We don't have to see the high scores menu or anything, just what you can do with gameplay. Add it by all means if you want, but the game is what will impress us most.

We also want to see what kind of original stuff you can do. That's why it has to be new. Or at least not previously released.
Oh, ok, that makes a little more sense then. So you're almost looking for more of a game engine than a full game per se.
What fun is a game without a highscore table to brag to your friends about? Also I have made it a point to never release a program until I have taken care of all aspects I want, that includes title screen, options, and a high score. It would be better if you extend the time though, as to create higher quality games, thus making your group look somewhat good. One final question: Do they have to be games, or can they be some sort of BASIC routine for accomplishing some sort of task?
Yeah, but you can always finish the game on your own after you demo the engine to the BPC, no?

We don't mind if you submit a game engine, and we especially don't mind if you submit a full game. Remember, this can also be a project for YOU too (you can only release it after the announcement, of course), so you can always release updates.

Not much. But if you submit a game, it's a contest- serious business. You can make it more fun after you prove your stuff.

I don't see why there aren't high score programs that create high score screens for TI-BASIC. It would be a lot less worry.

As a release yes. If you get winner or runner-up, then you get the entry released. But if you release updates, either the winner or runner-ups can request for it to be updated too.

Unlike other contests, there really is not a huge barrier as to what you can do. As long as it abides by the regular restrictions provided, it can be an educational program, a game, an idiom, whatever.
Re: the highscore screen thing: There isn't because the amount of customization that would be needed for each individual program or game would make it prohibitive.
I'll enter. I like a good programming challenge. *pops knuckles*
Ok so I suppose the real question is should I create a decent game or some sort of science program...
I just thought of a game to do but I doubt I could pull it off. 😄
Oh? Care to share?
Not yet, you'll probably tell me you made it already. 😉
