Hey! It's time for me to start buying parts for my new PC, it will be a few month project as I'm getting some cheap parts when I'm in Singapore in september.

I've bought these HP elite gaming PC's and now I'm done with the fact that you can't really upgrade them as they have so small cases.
This is my first PC that I'm building myself and I'm asking for your help to find the right components and give me tips with the build.

Edits:
- Updated Case, RAM, Power, Motherboard, Removed CPU cooler
Don't bother with that CPU cooler. Unless you are going to be overclocking the stock HSF the CPU comes with will work fine. And if you are going to be overclocking, that's still not the CPU cooler you want.

Motherboard: Get anything with the Z77 chipset - personally I'm partial to Asus, but any of the major brands should do just fine (such as MSI and Gigabyte)

Power: Easy, pretty much anything in the Corsair HX or AX line. There are other quality PSUs out there, but Corsair is the only company that actually doesn't have a bad PSU at all. I'd suggest anything 650w and above (if you're going to crossfire definitely go more towards the 850w to 1000w range) - AX is best, HX is better, TX is good.

RAM: Pretty much anything - it's almost all the same stuff anyway. OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, G.SKILL - hard to go wrong with any of them.

Case: That case isn't what I would go for. Check out the Cooler Master HAF X or the Antec Twelve Hundred. When you start talking big video cards, full towers make things so much easier and nicer (not to mention easier to cool quietly). I've heard good things about the Raven RV02 as well.
Speaking of cases, Hardocp just reviewed the Raven 2 Evolution and loved it: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/07/27/silverstone_raven_2_evolution_enthusiast_case_review/1

And MadShrimps reviewed the CoolerMaster HAF XM (mid tower version of the HAF X): http://www.madshrimps.be/articles/article/1000316/#axzz21pLgaulN

Fascinating case, with the motherboard mounted to put the connectors at the top. I can't say that I've ever seen that sort of a case before.

I did a build with a Raven RV03 (same basic design, but cheaper and a bit louder). It's a nice design, really easy to hook everything up if your case is next to a desk or something as well, since all your IO ports are on the top instead of the back.

Did you find the stack-effect cooling to work as well as advertised, considering that things like GPUs mess things up by blowing sideways?

All the GPUs that make any significant heat these days exhaust out the back of the card, so they would assist in the air flowing up and out.

But I can't really comment much on the cooling - nothing particularly fancy went into the case, as it was a build for my dad. So just an i7-2600k and I think I used the integrated GPU for video.

That said, it managed to keep two GTX 480s in SLI cool without being loud: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/09/30/my_quiet_galaxy_geforce_gtx_480_sli_build/
Wow, very impressive, and another fascinating read from HardOCP. For some reason I thought those card pulled from the back and pushed out the side, so I learned something new today.
Bought the HAF X and it's huge! But at least it looks good and has space in it Smile

Did you also go for the rest of the bill of materials that you mentioned, or have you not reached that stage yet?

Only bought the case for now. Should have all parts before end of September Smile
