What linux distro should I use next?

As repeated several times in this topic, Unity is just one Window Manager (WM). At login you can select classic Gnome, if that's what you prefer.
Ubuntu and Mint are both terrible excuses for a distro.

If you want to start being serious, use Fedora if you want bleeding edge stuff, or Debian if you value stability above all else.
