Intead of the proposed

  • Category: http://cemete.ch/cFORUM_ID
  • File: http://cemete.ch/fFILE_ID

It can be
  • Category: http://cemete.ch/fFORUM_ID
  • File: http://cemete.ch/uRAND
since the archive files don't get displayed when updated or uploaded, though not a bad suggestion on second thought.
Yeah, but it would sure be easier to reference http://cemete.ch/aFILE_ID than the longer "descriptive" link in things like tweets and IRC. Smile
I wouldn't mind have shortcuts for username/ids either.

That sounds like a good idea too. Smile
Yeah, I just thought about that when Alex suggested using "uRAND". Maybe a uUSER_ID || uUSERNAME? Smile

Also, domain is up and running! Kerm, if you'd like to point the domain to your nameservers, I'd be happy to do so. Otherwise, I'd absolutely love to write, maintain, and set this up for Cemetech! Smile

So, does this mean that when users rate and review or update and upload, it'll display in SAX?

Eventually to say the least.

Also, swivel. Kerm & I have expressed interest to pitch in for the Short URL Domain if you want us to Smile
Alex, I think what he's referring to is essential just a short permalink, alternative to posting the massive URLs in tweets, IRC, and the like.

Kerm, Alex, if you'd like, thanks! Send me a PM. Smile I stumbled on the idea when I was bored, trying to come up with short-url domains for myself. The .ch tld was open, so I was excited to suggest it. I had the money to get it but, like Kerm, I wasn't sure if I had the money on an available card. Twenty dollars is hardly an upset and I was happy to register it on behalf of Cemetech Smile
Swivelgames, for the sake of short-term simplicity, perhaps pointing it at the Cemetech nameservers is not a bad idea? I just need to check out how to specify the domain in my CPanel, which I just did, and it looks beyond trivial. Shall I PM you the nameservers along with the other PM? Wink Also, let's summarize the ideas on the range of features.

If we have a first-letter collision, go to two letters. UN, UID for those two.
http://cemete.ch/ ... nice Very Happy
Will this be made so that the little button that lets you get the current post (in the top left corner of this, and every post) will give you a cemete.ch URL?
That'd be a pretty awesome mod, I think.

A problem with integrating it with SAX is that when a topic is created, the topic link is what's posted. Maybe http://cemete.ch/t* for topics?

Sounds good! And yes indeed. Just send me the nameservers and I'll configure them. Should be pointed almost instantaneously. Also, I just made an addon domain, name "cemete.ch", and pointed it to a special location.

Well, the only time you'd have a conflict is if the username is numeric. You could easily use is_numeric() on everything after the "u", and if not then its a username. And then, of course, you could fall back to check for the username if the id doesn't exist?

Either that, or we could do something like cemete.ch/u/KermMartian and cemete.ch/u2

That's what is proposed in the very first post. However, it won't be for everyday URL's around Cemetech yet, but rather to replace tinyurl.com in IRC. There are other uses being discussed within the topic. Such as adding file reviews, ratings and updates/uploads to SAX.

profile.php does that now, and Kerm has agreed that in the long term it shouldn't. If someone names themselves 1337 and have user id 37, and someone else is named "cool" and have user id 1337, you're asking for a mess. Also, is_numeric would be a problem with something like 1337.83457 ("Leet Beast") since the id field isn't a float.
I vote we do the UID/USERNAME distinguishing out-of-band (ie, u/name vs. uNUMBER) rather than in-band (if a number, assume UID, otherwise assume USERNAME). Swivelgames, emailing you now.
Agreed! I think I like the idea of cemete.ch/u/KermMartian better Smile

Kerm, awesome! Thanks Very Happy

Done and done! And I set up my nameservers and add-on domain information to be able to grab requests once the re-direct creaks into place.

Edit: /tN for topic, /fN for forum, /pN for post, /nN for news, and the root redirect have all been added. For example, the Casio Prizm SDK news is http://cemete.ch/n456 . This topic is http://cemete.ch/t6244 . Saxjax now does rudimentary translation.
That's awesome! Razz

Woohoo. Cemetech's own url shortener Very Happy

Plans for files, user ids, usernames, and generated URLs in the near future? Smile
does /pN turn into ?p=N#N
