My current soldering iron is pretty cheap-y and is starting to be dumb (it doesn't heat up well, and stuff)
Regardless of that, I would like to get a good quality soldering iron that I can use for a while. I've looked online, but I don't really trust the comparisons they make, so I was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the right direction, or at least tell me what irons you have, so I can look into them Smile

My current iron is a 25 watt one that came in a "learn to solder" kit that I got for my birthday a few years ago, if that helps at all Razz
I've got a Hakko FX-888D. It cost around $100 but it has a nice, fine tip and heats up crazy fast (in a few seconds) compared to any of my other ones. I've used it for soldering wires to circuit boards and when I connected a fan to my calculator.

EDIT: Be careful from where you buy it, apparently there are a bunch of Chinese knock-offs trying to sell clones. Although the link I posted is legit, I'd suggest buying directly from Hakko's website.
