I was browsing the forums on an art site I regular and came across this topic about a week ago. It's still active and I'm surprised many people are thinking or have thought the same thing as this user:

Topic of Thread: AM I HACKED!?!
Quick Synopsis: This user is being taken to another webpage that reads "Internet cannot display webpage" and believes it's a from being hacked since it doesn't happen on any other websites.

Might I point you to this genius topic entitled "Casue Maybe U Have Some Virus Inside"?

I remember that topic Laughing

Oh yeah, I had forgotten that you were around for that one. Laughing How did you manage to run across this new gem of stupidity?
The title "AM I HACKED" drew my attention like a bug to a blue light. Really. It did. And survived. Cool
Let's post fun bits from the thread:

Ok..........
But how do you completely get rid of Firefox? I tried recycling it but doesn't work.
Actually a SMART comment from the thread:

Quoting TaJMoX:
"Not a virus, but other form of malware, which could affect your DNS settings. You probably do have other problems going on that you don't recognize. Download and run MBAM, then get back to us with the results."

I even got such a form of malware on Ubuntu - my first serious Linux problem. D= Google kept redirecting to random people's MySpace/Facebook pages, and it took Chrome about 15 password entries to detect that I was on a SCAM Facebook site. I ended up HATING Chrome (at last), it happened on Firefox too (meaning it was a computer issue as opposed to a server issue), and I had to change my FB password... Mad
Ah, sounds like someone had their /etc/hosts file hijacked on Linux, then. Fascinating stuff; I wonder if we'll see the evolution of more quantity and quality of Linux virii as it continues to gain popularity as a consumer OS?

Yeah, I wonder how easily Mac can get viruses installed; I actually see a LOT of spyware/adware on Macs, but not many trojans, etc.

Mac OS, like any operating system, is only as string as the programmers who built it were careful about avoiding exploits and security holes. Mac OS has historically been targeted by many fewer virii than Windows, but that doesn't mean it's more secure. It's just security by obscurity in the long run.

Yah, you're right... Windows is MUCH more popular, so that probably is why it's targeted more often.
My favourite part is:

Wow, I don't think people like that should be allowed to have a computer O_O

Yeah, I was going to point that one out too, but I thought it was just too facepalm-worthy.
My math teacher has a WHOLE lot of money. Her husband was an engineer, and she was a teacher. They didn't have kids. So anyway, she has a mac at home. She has NO idea how to use it. At school she has a Windows machine. So she gave me 20 dollars to scan her computer for viruses. I hate her guts, so I took it, installed ClamWin, and scanned it. Took me almost no time at all. Whats funny is that she always asked for help after that.
How do you use Easus?
How do you get the internet up?
How do you download a file?
Can you get me to be an Admin?

All sorts of retarded questions that anybody knows the answer to! Really pisses a nerd off to see an idiot like that, with the hardware of a nerds dreams. How do idiots always get the nice stuff while the smart people get crap to use?

Anyway, that was pretty stupid what the forum post was about. A virus! Smile
Hehe, indeed. I think as tech enthusiasts, we all have to deal with stupid computer questions from friends and relatives. We can't really turn them down, so over time they ask more and more of us. Allow me to link a spot-on Oatmeal cartoon about it (slightly off-color):

That was really funny Kerm Smile . All I can say is that it happens to me almost every day! You can never say no, and you don't want to say yes. It is so inconsiderate of them to expect help all the time. They never think twice to ask, rather than spend ten minutes and figure it out themselves. Thanks for showing that!
