So one of my friends from work called and tasked my with finding them a cheap laptop for college for $400 or under. I have found a few and I was wondering your opinions on them or if you could find any better ones.

Looks ok, not for me, but It fits the price and should have enough RAM and HDD for them to use since they wont be using it for much.

Ok minus the 2gb RAM, but again They shouldn't be doing anything too intensive and need more.

Also... There's a plethora of netbooks that'll go for well under $400, depending on the application.
Chrystina just grabbed this one for $450 on sale last week. It's pretty excellent imho if you don't mind an AMD rpocessors, including a nice size and weight and even discrete graphics:

but they aren't that bad... and cheap too

The one I posted had a discrete graphics element and would therefore be not the worst for gaming...

Newegg usually has some sweet deals on good PCs, though, so keep your eye on them.
