At the Ubuntu Developer Summit, Valve employee Drew Bliss said that Linux is a more viable platform for gaming than Windows 8. Gabe Newell, Valve director, has officially solidified Valveās stance on Windows 8 by announcing that Half-Life 3 is exclusive to Linux.

There will be no other platform supported by Half Life 3. Valve anticipates a gaming revolution, and that gamers deserve an "unparalleled experience." A release date has not been announced.
EDIT: Disclaimer: That source turns out to be not-so-reliable (it's a joke website...)
Wow, that totally doesn't punish Windows 7 users or anything. Great marketing skills, Gaben.
edit: Now that I know this is fake, I must question my intelligence.
I find this rather dubious.
Not to say I doubt it. They would be losing 75% of their market.
It's more than confirmed that that website is totally unreliable. Plus, Gaben never was at UDS.
I seriously doubt that HL3 will be Linux-only, unless they are predicting a total Windows market share collapse due to Windows 8 changes or something.
As for Windows 7 users, I know that when Microsoft released Halo 2 for the PC, they initially made it Vista-only, but again that might have been a strategy to sell more copies of Vista to Halo fans.

I didn't notice the joke part of that edit when I posted <_<

At least one person in this thread had their Internet Skepticism hat on.

You are extremely over-estimating the size of linux. They'd be losing 99.99% of their PC gaming market.
Well, they would if the site wasn't obviously a joke.
I don't think they would even drop support for just Windows 8, despite the whining. I suspect there would be heavy pushback from other developers when the latest DirectX is released exclusively for it, and the last thing Valve wants to do is create a vacuum for Origin to fill.

False. You underestimate the percentage of linux users who are gamers. I find that it is much higher than normal. I'd put it at ~95%

If even half of Linux users are gamers (which they aren't - Linux gamers are few and far between), that would still only be ~0.5% of the market.

I am too lazy to actually make my own post so instead I quote people and then don't say anything new.
