Problem is that with cold turkey there could be some... mental issues involved... it is best to do it slowly. How much do you smoke a day? a pack? Of so, evry week or other week, take ONE cig off the routine
Tapering yourself off probably won't make a lot of difference. People who do this with any other drug still have to suffer withdrawal. Due to the way stimulants, pain-killers, benzos, etc. affect the chemistry in your body, discontinuation really puts you in a bad position. When your body is used to having this substance around, it's hard to suddenly regulate itself without it. Tapering, when done correctly, might lessen the severity of withdrawal, but it's actually just spanning the withdrawal symptoms over a very long period of time. Would you rather dedicate the next few years of your life to tapering off of nicotine and suffer some general anxiety the entire time, or suffer through a few days of pure hell and be done with it?
The faster you flush the nicotine out of your body, the quicker you're going to get past this. I would just put the cigarettes down and start consuming a gallon of water each day until it's all over with.

I agree with Zera here. It's like ripping off a band-aid. For the first half second it hurts more, but then it hurts less in the long wrong. Addictions can be horribly painful stuff. Just know that we are rooting for you, and if you have the urge to fall back on something, fall back on us, mmk?
So I haven't had one since but I found myself buying a pack today. I opened it, but have resisted the urge thus far.

Noooo, don't do it! Seal it up! Superglue and ducttape! lafferjm wrote:
0x5 I have still resisted the urge and actually feel ashamed that I broke down and bought it.
Good that you've resisted the urges, although I'm not sure how helpful feeling guilty is. _player1537 wrote:
I hope you've still kept the urge down 😉 How's it going?
Me too, we're all rooting for you! Wish there was some more concrete moral support we could offer. I've never had to help one of my friends quit smoking, but I've had friends get very depressed, and convincing them that life is worth living is hard moral support work.
Still smoke free. As a matter of fact this post is coming from my phone in the nonsmoking break room at work.

Great job, laffer, keep up the good work! 😁 lafferjm wrote:
Will do. The temptation still creeps in but it is not as strong as it was in the first week.
Ah, good to hear that the urges are receding.
Yeah, but I don't think they ever completely leave. Some people at work haven't smoked in ten years and they say, they still have urges every once and a blue moon.

I'm sure it must get easier to resist those urges though. I'm glad you are resisting them either way. Keep up the good work!
Not sure how long its been, but I just wanted to update saying that I'm still clean of all nicotine.
