Ok, I will note the avoiding bit Very Happy

Hp still looks like a good choice to me though, but I will check ibuypower, I looked their a few days ago, but didn't spend much time. By the way, is it just me or are ibuypower and cyberpower almost exactly the same?

Oh yeah, just wondering what your thoughts are on intel vs amd for notebooks (pretty much tl-56 vs t7200, and then I wonder about the amd mt series, I looked it up and it seems to be a processor designed for mobile use, although it was introduced in 2005)

And one last question, how would you say the 7600 compares to the 7900?
7900 is roughly twice as fast as the 7600 (give or take)

Intel Core 2 Duo's currently spank AMD processors in everything but cost, so I would go with a Core 2 unless you really need to save that extra $50-100 or whatever Very Happy
I can't seem to find any 7900 gpu equipped laptop on ibuypower
Well, from what I can gather the X1600 is faster than the 7600, anyway, so you *might* want to lean towards that instead (it would seem that ATi has the edge in general in mobile GPUs at the moment)

But if you are looking for a 7900, you are going to have to shell out some money (north of $2,000) - and in that case, only if you are getting an XPS line is Dell at all a possibility (one of the reasons XPS's cost more is they aren't total crap like all the other Dell's are - but I still don't like Dell)

This looks to be a good laptop for the money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114320
Oh, in that case I have 2 choices from ibuypower, http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=164#header or http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=173 ---- both have x1600s

EDIT: On second thought, I only have one choice, the first one. My family will NOT go for the one with the ati person on the back =P

It comes out to about 1470 with 2 gb ram and an intel 7200

You can change that Razz (Other choice is "Hero" or your own image)

Oh well, I don't think they would go for the hero either Wink

Besides, the first one has a bigger screen =D

I think the price will be down by the time we actually order, but I will see... Thanks for the help though, I always have trouble comparing nvidia to ati and intel to amd! Good Idea

EDIT: My mom is on vacation and she talked to a person who used to work in tech, and they said dell laptops are broken a lot, but she recommended ibm/lenovo, built like tanks Razz Although we probably won't be able to get a good gpu, but oh well =D
The gateway 17" I know has the 7900 card (don't know on the other ones right now).
Yeah, I took a look at that, and it comes out to about 2 k with warrenties and accidental damage replacement.
I've got another question.

Is there a way to make a card that is small enough to fit into a low profile case fit if it doesn't have a low profile bracket? Besides ordering an L-P bracket from the manufacturer?

I can't seem to find many good low profile cards.
Apparently my parents are now willing to spen up to roughly 1700 dollars, because we are looking at the Asus g1 (http://www.ajump.com/ajump/product1.asp?pf%5Fid=1840168 --- its on Newegg to, but for 100+ more, and tax and shipping, this place doesn't charge tax for Tennessee)

Do you think this is a good notebook? Or would it be a better idea to spend 1550 to get a less powerful laptop like this? http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=190#header --- it is about 1500 once you change it to mushkin ram, 160 gb hd, a razer mouse ( Razz only 40 bucks....), and ms works suite, with the ibuypower coupon for 5% off... I think I can get the same thing from say Aeon craft to.

P.S. We would like to be able to get the laptop before the 26th, so we will have it for vacation, which *might* be unlikely with a custom built one =\
Go for the ASUS. If nothing else, you're getting a slightly better GFX chip. If you decide to go for the cheaper one, though, don't bother with MS Works; just get OpenOffice.

Ok, I think it will probably end up like that, plus it is prebuilt, so it will ship sooner.

Just wondering if you have ever heard of the seller before? Don't want to order from something from a bad site Wink

EDIT! We have looked at every aspect of the laptop (http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=61&l3=416&l4=0&model=1447&modelmenu=1), and we think that we are going to definitally order it (the ASUS one, we will order it from Provantage, and it will come out to a total of 1700 exactly.)

We will probably order it tonight, also, this is nicer than I initially thought. It has a small lcd bar above the keyboard for time and such, along with including a carrying case and a mouse that looks a lot like a slightly downgraded g5.

If you see anything wrong with the laptop, speak now, or don't mention it at all (I will be pissed if their is some flaw with it after we order it... Although it recieved almost entirely good reviews (besides the fact that it includes some bloatware that neeeeeds to be uninstalled)

EDIT2: IT HAS BEEN ORDERED! And I read atleast 3-4 reviews of it first, and all said it was built solidly, with just a few cons.
I am actually considering that laptop for myself - so let me know when you get it and how it is Very Happy

Oh, and by the way, if you are uncertain of a site that you will be ordering from, just check http://www.resellerratings.com/

We ordered it yesterday from a site called Provantage (I used one of those deals sites to find it, I used it because it had no tax and a good price to begin with). it is bizrate certified and apparently associated with pricegrabber.com

It shipped today, so I will hopefully have it by the end of the week, I will tell you how it is then (of course we have been using a 2-3 year old laptop, and the desktop I game on uses an mx 440, so it will feel blazingly fast to me Razz )
Oh, just so you know, the mouse isn't a "downgraded G5", but rather is simply a re-badged MX518 (a solid mouse - I'm using one now Very Happy )
So... did it come? If so, how is it? I just ordered myself one of the new F3SV-B1s based on the new Santa Rosa platform. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16834220162 - oh yeah, its got an 8600M GS - DX10 graphics ftw! Very Happy (Asus also updated the G1 to the G1S - added Santa Rosa + 8600M GT, but its just under $2,000)
Ok... I officially hate you... Razz

The laptop is AWESOME, but I wish I had known that the mobole 8000 series was coming out so soon... Sad

You are upgrading the ram to 2 gb, right? That not only has a more powerful (I think....) gpu, but also a more powerful processor (7500 vs 7300/7200). On the upside I have 512 mb of vram =D Not to mention the gaming persona of this laptop Very Happy
What is vram? Isn't just RAM the memory your computer holds? Like you put the RAM in in sticks and make sure they clip in? RAM= DDR2? I don't know much, and i want to learn

And congrats on teh laptop, I can't get on until the end of highschool/beginning of college unless I pay for it... and i'm almost broke...
My plan is to get one this summer but I'll probubly ask here first to see what you guys think I should get.
