Hi! I recently made a TI-BASIC RPG and I was wondering if I could submit it. I didn't design it for this contest but it's neat that this contest is happening. But to figure out if I can submit it, I have some questions about acceptable AI use and also connections to previous games someone has made.

I didn't use AI to write my game, but I did use AI in the following ways:

1. I used it to refresh on formulas like how to check whether a bit was one or zero inside an integer.
2. A couple of times I showed my code to AI to ask if I had used a variable anywhere in a codepath (because I was trying to figure out if there would be unintended behavior if I modified that variable) or to check for memory leaks.
3. While checking for memory leaks, I asked AI a lot of questions about whether anything in TI-BASIC besides the known GOTO-out-of-control-block issue could produce leaks, and asked questions about how to read the size of the stack out of the tilem debugger.
4. I asked AI to make two in-browser utilities for me to visualize map designs: one that would let me see how one-off maps would look, and another that would let me see how a composite of screenshots would look as a full map. But, these were supplemental; I did all preliminary design on pencil and paper in mini-notepads.
5. After I finished the first draft of the game, I asked AI to write a python port of the battle system and mock up battles between every character and every other character, as part of trying to understand the game balance. I didn't wind up making any modifications to the game as a result, but I did study the game using AI.

Every line of code and all of the data entry was written by me, with my hands, on my calculator device in pure TI-BASIC; there was no point at which I had AI write code or design the game.

Re: connections to previous games: the game I made evolves directly on a battle/stats engine for a game I made ten years ago. The game I made ten years ago was Hoobagees 4, a Pokemon-like game where you catch Hoobagees, fight trainers, and beat a league. This time around, I had an idea for a new map/world navigation/events engine, and I wanted to see how well it would work quickly; so I used the battle system and core gameplay mechanics from Hoobagees 4 and built a new world / story based on the maps engine. (You're still fighting trainers and beating a league, but all of the characters are different and the vibes are different.) I also wound up adding new mechanics (a new type, new EXP curve, a new system for tracking what Hoobagees you have previously caught, the ability to warp around the world, and the ability to check a world map) and tweaking all of the old code for performance and to trim it down. So the game is quite different, though it probably recycles something like 8000 bytes from the previous game I made.

Is this acceptable? Can I submit my game, or no? If not, no worries. I am also happy to submit it without competing for prizes - if the judges are willing to play it, it would be fun to get their scores. 🙂
Typically you cannot use code etc that were created prior to the contest commencing or reuse old projects that were started years ago.

I don't think using tools/utilities developed by AI are a problem? Map editors and other tools aren't ruled out. But code generated by AI would be an issue as previously stated.
Ah, that's fair enough. Thanks anyway!

to quote Naga on Discord 23 days ago,

Using previous code such as routines for menus, making high score lists, etc are fine. You can't just paste a whole program you've never released (though it's not like we can *prove* that...)

You need to make something new and fresh, which can help strengthen your skills with the language and library.

So I'd assume that while it's not strictly forbidden to reuse old snippets, it would be preferred to just a new thing. At least, that's what I understand from the message, I'm no judge.
Indeed the judges will let you know, but an entire game that is unreleased puts you at an unfair advantage vs others given the tight timeframe. But as StephenM mentioned, routines for regular things like menus and even some sprite graphics that you may have doodled previously should be no probs. Best to wait for Naga though.
We're now entering the final stretch of the contest, with only one week remaining! So far it's been a crazy month, with several jaw-dropping progress that's been delivered by our participants, and we're excited to see where this leads!

For the last week...

At this time, your entry should either be reaching it's final stages of development, or in the debugging stage. You should have a thread of your program, documenting what your entry is about, things that will be in the game, things you have to do, etc. Be as detailed as possible! More details and fun screenshots grab more eyes 👀

The contest will end on June 11th, 2026 at 12:00 AM UTC. By this deadline, your program should be submitted to myself, the judges of this contest, or simply admin@cemetech.net. After this time, any other changes to your entry after will not be accepted, it will be reviewed "as-is".

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! We're more than happy to help you! Good luck everyone, this final week is going to be crazy!

Update!!!!

There are some individuals who have not finished their games yet, and with that said a vote was placed. The community voted for the contest to be extended seven days. The schedule posted prior will be extended one week for participants to finish their programs. This will be the one and final extension for the contest, and on June 18th the contest will end, and two weeks after the results will be revealed.

Thanks everyone and good luck!
Should/Can we upload it to the archives as well as submitting it to you, or should we do just ine or the other? Thank you!
I think that it isn't advisable to upload the program to the archives early, as Basic programs can't be "source-locked", you've effectively given your project's source to the public, which would make the contest unfair, and I think that you'd be disqualified pretty quickly.
I'm not sure if people had seen my thread but early on in the contest I uploaded a BASIC lib for the CE that has some functions very similar to xLIB CSE. It's in my thread if anyone wants to use it - please let me know if you have any questions about it.
Today marks the five day milestone for the contest! Submissions must be submitted by the end of the contest to the Admins of Cemetech, the judges of the contest, and myself. Your program must be finished and de-bugged for it to receive a higher score.

**Submissions posted after this date of June 18th, 2026 will not be accepted.**
When on June 18, 2026 ? At 23:59 ? But which time zone ? (UTC+?, UTC-?)
Sorry if this is said already

How do we submit the game? Through email or upload it here?
Today is the last day of the contest, and at 11:59 PM UTC, submissions will not be accepted after today. However, after discussing with Adriweb I have decided to change a specific detail on how entries are submitted.

PARTIALLY-COMPLETED ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED

This means that you won’t have to completely finish your program in order for your entry to be accepted. The reason why I decided to do this decision because we have noticed there haven’t been very many progress updates to multiple projects and so far. So because of this, some criteria for judging will be slightly modified. So as long as your project is in a somewhat playable state, that will be completely acceptable for this contest.

For submitting your contest entry, you may send it to me and the administrators or the other judges for this contest!
