The fictional TI-84 is real? I cannot believe it! Here's an actual screenshot with no editing.

oops, I just leaked my tabs open, oh well
I legitimately had to double take to make sure it wasn't April Fools, and it's January. Finally some new hardware from TI.

We probably aren't getting any ASM support this time, are we...Hope it's compatible with the usual 83+ TI-Basic and they don't go Python only. If it is, might need to nab one so I could make EVOPORT...

They better actually fix the voltage issues from the CE if they're gonna use the same screen.
wont be long before a jailbreak is released if ti fans are like they always are!
not in a bad way
but maybe a jailbreak wont fix it if ASM is not implemented at first
clevor is trolling with inspect element 😉

I'm getting more and more bothered by the placement of the <> key on the Evo. I'm fine with all the other adjustments, but they haven't changed the numbers and basic operators in 30 years. Key familiarity is one of their selling features. WHY did they change the basics so significantly now?

Sure the TI-34 Multiview has the <> key there, but these are not the same product line. The TI-34 is a a 'scientific' calc made for middle school. I'd much rather them put the <> key elsewhere, like above the divide key, then also change the TI-34 to match. The TI-83 Premium CE doesn't have the <> key there and it's not like the European market revolted.

A few other gripes:
  • Why do we need a [x^2] and [x^*] instead of just a [x^*]? With the new OS surely TI could figure out how to cleanly handle a single button. That'd free up a whole button for a different function.
  • Also, how are they going to verbally state what the [|<>â–®] button is? Why did it need to change from ins/insert?
  • Why is [Plot] the only text that gets a glyph next to it?
  • I assume [2nd]>[clear] is backspace. I guess that's too long of a word to use?
  • Using the Alpha key to access a menu is kind of cursed and stands out weirdly. If they didn't waste a button on [x^2] they could've kept it as a 2nd function.
  • Keeping the Mode key seems strange. The only setting I regularly changed was the radian to degree setting. Why not add a shortcut to toggle that?

OK that's enough whining, some things I like:
  • They kept the trig keys. I always thought it was dumb the TI-83 Premium CE has those hidden in a menu.
  • There's still a dedicate [prgm] button.
  • They didn't change the number positions.
  • Full sized function keys.
  • The alpha characters are all in the same spot.
  • The fraction key is a decent addition even if I personally don't mind using the [alpha]>[xt0n] shortcut.
  • The [<>] button is a good addition, I just wish they didn't screw with the basic operators.
I'm most interested in what the CPU will be. Obviously an ARM that (rapidly) emulates an ez80 is a prime possibility, either to run an entire ez80 OS or to interleave native math and graphing functions with (e.g.) emulated programs and apps. Given that TI is likely not looking to make a major investment into rewriting the OS, complete emulation seems possible. Equally likely is an overclocked ez80 with Flash wait states removed, which could achieve that "3x" speed.
I know where my June Paycheck is going.
Wow, TI charging $160 is wild, but not unheard of. If people are looking for the most powerful actual calculator, they will probably buy a CX II CAS, for less 🤷
Most students (or their parents) buy what teachers recommend, and if they recommend 84, then it is that. I would assume most teachers are more familiar with 84 UX than any Nspire UX.
Also 160 for calculator is not that bad if promises are that it is that much better than previous incarnations, I remember Voyage 200 was 330 euros as new 20+ years ago.
It'll likely have the exact same pricing than the 84+CE nowadays, so $130 normally, and ≈ $100 during BTS.

Anyway, I've backed up the hi-res pics from Amazon here: https://wiki.tiplanet.org/Sp%C3%A9cial:Nouveaux_fichiers
Also updated MyCalcs accordingly 🙂 https://my.calcs.quest/variants?hideProtos=1&hideOld=1
My Amazon preorder (on the listing that was subsequently pulled) was updated with a May 1, 2026 delivery date.
It is convenient to replace the apps key with the fraction key, instead of having it buried in menus, like the others (Alpha+F1+Enter). They also moved distributions to the alpha row under stat, moved matrixes to replace distributions, and conveniently put nth root in its place.
I don't like the idea of moving the operations up, it will mess up the familiar layout, and from what I have seen, people do not use the <> key often on calculators, the S/D key on casio calculators is more convenient.
The <> key is already there like that on some of the scientific calcs that TI makes, so actually people are already used to it when they come from middle school (if they used such a TI model anyway)
i heard that the new calculator in schools next year will be the cx ii. apparently a lot of teachers are mad that the 84 plus is being removed.
If your school is switching calculators, you should try to take advantage of it and get some free CEs (school edition of course).
no, in our school the calculators we are using are ti 84 plus (non ce)
Still an opportunity to get free TI-84s, I guess
Waking up to see this was perhaps the most exciting thing in a while. I feel so nerdy for getting excited about a new graphing calculator, but hopefully in the years to come we'll be able to write C programs for it.
This is fake.
But, I think we could make our own?
