Just noticed that the forum emotes are.. Old. Really old. Like Invisionfree forums old. There are several that aren't set at the same size as the others.
As a lot of things have changed since I was active as an administrator, I'm curious how hard would it be for us to give the emotes a make over, and add newer ones to maybe fall in line with.. Perhaps Twitter's lineup of the round smiley ones? Add some more/newer calculator ones?
Anyone else here with some ideas on what could be added, pending our site administer can make it happen?
Woah woah, retina emoji? In _my_ cemetech?? Let's do it

Other than that I liked MaxCoderz and United-TI smileys. The UTI ones were kinda dark, though.

Unicode emoticons/emojis do indeed work just fine in text, so people are welcome to enter them via their preferred method (e.g. their keyboard on their phone, or the [windows][.] palette on Windows). I personally love the Invisionfree emoticon palette for the nostalgia value, but I could understand if they look ancient to people who weren't alive yet when Invisionfree existed.
If we were to overhaul the face-based emoticons, I'm very disinclined to get rid of the graphing calculator ones.
It's worth noting that phpBB2 is built to map emoticons to images, so it would require additional work to switch to modern Unicode emojis as the defaults for
,
, etc.

Some of the later calculators, like the TI-84 Plus CE, are not part of the emoticons AFAICT.

I mean, We Can Always Just Add New Ones Without Deleting the Old Ones.
