Is it possible to make the 👍 and 👎 icons yellow instead of tan? It would be more inclusive to people of all skin colors.

I didn’t know that, I’m so sorry!
It's not a bad idea to have more inclusive thumbs up and thumbs down icons. For a general workaround, I would recommend just using standard emoji, though.
claculator: This is a perfectly fine post for this forum. Please do not moderate for us or dissuade users from posting legitimate suggestions. We prefer website suggestions to go in the website suggestions forum rather than the SAX chat so they don't get lost.

It seems reasonable to make our emotes closer to what UTR51 recommends, though the average color of those two icons in particular isn't far off the suggested #ffcc22. They're a little heavier on blue, but otherwise reasonable.
I tried just doing some color correction to make them more yellow but that seems fairly difficult because the images have a lot of shading and outline: just shifting them to be more yellow makes it look pretty bad.
I'm more inclined to simply do away with the image replacements for our emotes where possible and output equivalent emoji instead; so instead of those images you'd just get 👍 or 👎 when typing  or  in your post. That's a little bit more work, but seems quite reasonable given the forum software predates any support for emoji in Unicode: it would be sensible to take advantage of advances in typography from the last 15 years. In the meantime you can always type emoji yourself (not too hard; most OSes provide shortcuts to do that these days) and then also take advantage of skin tone modifiers.

Incidentally, I disagree - this is a good issue to raise in a topic, as it can engender longer-form discussion than is feasible in SAX/Discord/IRC.

I agree with Tari: it makes sense to switch to Unicode emotes for a lot of our existing emoticons, save some of the custom calculator ones.
I don't mind the thumbs up/down being changed, but how are some of the unique/animated emoticons going to get replaced?

I'd imagine we keep anything that doesn't have a Unicode equivalent as an image replacement with our current set, for uniqueness and posterity.

Having spent some time going over reasonable replacements, several of your examples do seem to have good emoji equivalents.

But maybe it's just me interpreting  as a ninja?

Current set of emotes:
Proposed new set (in a somewhat different order, using whatever font Firefox on Windows chooses):
The one difference I'm not entirely happy with is  being U+1F47F 👿 and  being U+1F977 🥷, where they were both previously the one in the middle of the top row in my image which reads to me as a ninja. I'm inclined to swap them so  is a ninja and  is an imp, but that leaves :altevil: (the face with red eyes and horns near the right side of the second row) as being pretty similar to ; perhaps both :altevil: and  should be U+1F47F?
I also notice that the 84PCE emoticon is much smaller than the other calculators, but that's difficult for me to fix since I'd need a completely new image to put in.

While we're on the subject, why does it open a new page?
The userstyle does this:
IMO, this should be the default behavior.

I don't think we should show emojis that are standard Unicode in the selection list
That seems sensible to me, and it fixes the thing womp commented on by showing few enough emotes that it won't truncate the list.
