I bought one on eBay to fix (as I have done with a few different models), but the screen design makes it impossible to solder jumpers to. I have reflowed and put pressure on different parts of the flex cable to no avail so I am out of options and need a full screen replacement. Does anyone know where I can get a bare screen?
Do you happen to have a link to the listing?

Just wondering is there an issue with the LCD (missing rows/columns) or is it cracked or just blank etc?

Are you able to connect it to a PC for example to verify that it is the screen that's the issue?
IIRC, the supplier that sells TI their screens only ships in bulk, with a minimum order of 500$ worth of screens, so getting the same screen brand new isn't a thing people do. I had heard of an idea a few years back for people to pitch in and buy a production run, but as far as I know, nobody ended up actually doing it.
I've gotten LCD's from chinese manufactures as samples, which only cost a few $ per unit ... but require express international shipping which can be expensive.

The other option is to look for a cheap calc on ebay that is not functioning for reasons that don't relate to the screen and use it for parts.

I certainly know I've bought more than one 'non-working' calc off ebay that was listed as 'wont turn on' etc but really only had the screen contrast turned all the way down ... Red face Unsure.
It is definitely a screen problem with the traditional missing lines. Too bad bad screens are almost always the reason they are sold as is. I might get lucky with a (truly) non-powering unit for a reasonable price on eBay so I'll keep watching.

Do either of you know if a plain 84 or 84 plus (or even 83 series) have a compatible screen to the SE?

TI changes parts out for slightly different ones quite frequently based on what's cheapest. As far as I know, all the matching 84+ and 84+SE revisions have the same screens (ie. a revision A 84+ has the same screen as a revision A 84+SE)
Currently, there's no complete database of components for the 84+/84+SE revisions (at least not in the community), so you would have to check the exact specs of the screen you are trying to replace and find another screen with the same specs. The TI-84s have been around for a long time, so you would obviously want to get one that was made around the same time as yours. As for the 83+ screen, I know the early ones used the same Toshiba display driver as the old TI-82 and TI-73, so those would definitely not be compatible, as for newer ones, I've never had a look inside, so I just don't know, but its possible that those might have been changed to match the 84s.

Long story short, its not because you have another TI-84+SE that the screen will be the same.
Oh well. Guess it will go to the future fix pile. Thanks for the info.
