I have the dreaded lines in the screen of a ti-92 plus Sad . It has said in other posts you cannot replace the ribbon cables with wire. Why is that?
There is no ribbon cable on the TI-92, the screen is directly on the PCB. It uses 5 separate display drivers (3 for columns and 2 for rows) so you would first have to figure out which pins map to which rows/columns.Then I suppose it would be possible to follow the traces from the display drivers to the LCD, but the issue might not be with the traces, and that kind of repair just really isn't worth it for an issue like that. I would advise against trying to repair it unless you want to do it educationally (and don't really care about potentially losing your calc).
ok Sad . doesn't the voyage 200 use ribbon cables though?

Yes, the Voyage 200 uses a heat-press ribbon cable...
