My boyfriend's birthday is coming up soon, so I decided to make him an electronic animated fursona badge! It uses a 2.7" 128x64 pixel monochrome OLED display, and is powered by an Adafruit Feather M0 (I used this instead of a regular Arduino Nano, because the Nano is too slow to move around large bitmaps smoothly). It's built into the case of an NES game cartridge (Double Dribble, if anyone's wondering) because he loves Nintendo stuff.

It has a single button - when pressed, it shows his Telegram and Twitter username on the screen.

I don't really know what a fursana badge is, but Wow that's really cool! I love the depth effect the animation gives. I don't see a place for a power switch, is it on constantly? If so, how long does the battery last? I see it's 1200mAh so I assume quite a while for a board like that. Also, how long does it take to charge?
I'm sure your boyfriend will enjoy it. Smile

It's a badge that you'd wear to a furry meetup/convention that usually has your fursona's name and picture on it. (A fursona is an anthropomorphic animal character you make and use to represent yourself in the furry community (I'm a black-backed jackal, my boyfriend's a tiger/fox hybrid)).

Yeah, there's no power switch, so it's just always on until the battery dies. If the button is held down for a few seconds, it turns off the screen as a sort of standby/sleep mode, which drastically reduces power consumption (the screen consumes ~100mA when on, and the Feather consumes only ~10mA).

I haven't measured yet, but after being in standby mode for 24 hours, the battery is still about 2/3 full. I'm guessing it'll last about 10 hours with the screen on. It'll probably take over 10 hours to fully charge, because the Feather's charger only puts out 100mA.

I had to show him because I can't keep secrets at all, and he loves it!
That looks amazing, from the animation and pixel-work to the craftsmanship in the cartridge. Does he carry it around or does the cartridge attach to something on the costume?

Thanks! I'll probably put it on a lanyard or something similar.
