I have started down the path of using 2D codes to conserve space on paper and annoy some friends Razz I have used mainly Code 39 and Pdf417 both of which appear on postage packages the majority of the time but there is another postage code format called DotCode which looks like this:

There is little to no documentation about it online and the apps you need to scan it with your phone are crazy expensive. My goal is to learn how to read this code and MAYBE develop a small app that lets your phone read it. Im not sure how ambitious the second bit is but I would for sure love to know how this code works (The only wikipedia page about it is less than a page long and in German.) Any ideas?
Probably uses some complicated error correction like Reed-Solomon. Believe me, it's not easy.
