Hello,

I'm an artist and very new to the ANN discussion, but I'm hoping to explore it as part of my current project, which focuses on Songdo, a massive "smart" city being built in South Korea. This past summer, I interviewed employees of the city's Integrated Operations Center, which monitors all of the sensor and surveillance data generated by the city. At the time, employees were suffering psychological duress due to the constant monitoring, and their supervisor was introducing therapy sessions.

My project departs from this point, imagining a therapeutic technique that can better "train" employees to meet the intense sensory demands of constant monitoring. As part of the project, I'm also interested in exploring how artificial neural nets could be evolved (in theory and design) to gain additional outputs that would give these employees an adaptive advantage in meeting these demands. In short, I'm imagining an ANN that adds or enhances the sensory capacities of human monitors. I'm hoping to generate a visualization of this ANN.

This is all hypothetical, of course, but I think it would be pertinent to introduce these questions—read through the lens of neural nets—to an art context. I wonder if any of you might have any advice on how to begin to consider evolving neural nets towards the generation of the additional outputs I have in mind. Is it something anyone would be interested discussing—and potentially collaborating on—with me (with compensation, if desired)? I have fairly limited programming skills, which is why I ask. Any advice or thoughts you have would be much appreciated.
