I don't know what happened but now the status bar is green and the battery level color is black.

For larfs, I put it into test mode -- status bar was expected blue, battery level color was black.

Is this color change something I need to worry about? Everything seems normal otherwise.

Guess not. Seems to be associated with the custom status bar features of DCSE. Cool, cool.
Okay, this adventure is too good not to share. But

tl;dr - it's just me, and it's nothing serious.

A CORRECTION: A previous post suggested this had something to do with Doors CSE. That was, politely, a ridiculous guess. Ignore.

A PATIENT
A TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition, manufactured in May 2014, was welcomed into my home on Friday 10 April 2026. It showed all signs of being normal and healthy, with a sound screen and good battery. And then Something Happened (either by my hand or some cosmic twist).

A NOTE
A green status bar is a perfectly normal thing -- when you're in a page of the Catalog. When you leave the Catalog, you're supposed to go back to a black status bar. Somehow, after my first excursion into the Catalog, my status bar did not return to black (or dark grey, if that's what it is).

A DISCOVERY
It's not just green/black. Once I started playing with the color selector in the Y= page, black appears as black, green appears as black, gray appears as a purple grape color, and darkgray appears as the green I see on the status bar.

A SECOND DISCOVERY
A screengrab taken with WebTILP (thank you AdriWeb and team) shows ... a black status bar! I see green on the device screen, but the OS is thinking black and speaking black out loud.

CONCLUSION
I am the newest of newbs with this and will happily take correction. But it seems to me this is a random hardware event downstream in the graphics controls. Some bit someplace has gotten bent either from hardware age or a cosmic ray strike or something. It has no effect on calculator operation, and only affects me in that I have to remember what I see is not what gets shared, if I share anything with color functionality.

I had. Cleared this, reset that from menu, reset from hw button ... but still "it's green"
The 84+CSE and weird colors go hand-in-hand. Once I was just innocently messing around with some BASIC programming and I decided to start doing my math homework; started scrolling through graph background colors and saw some colors with weird names that you otherwise would never see in the OS through anything except a custom picture or program.
Maybe try archive clear, as well as taking out ALL batteries and holding ON for 30 seconds.

Given that no calculations are affected, and that the device displays the correct dark-grey bar to external devices/software, I'm satisfied that it's a weird hardware thing. However, in the interest of Science:

Archive reset. Still green
ALL reset. Still green. My clock, my poor clock.
Rechargable battery removed, on button held. Note that I find no record of any other battery in the Plus C, so I didn't do that. Reconnected battery. Still green.

Good to hear! Thank you!
The Tale of the Haunted Calculator continues.

I uninstalled Doors CSE ... it defragmented ... I put Doors CSE back on ... and somewhere somehow the status bar became black again.
... and now it's green again, for no discernable reason. It was black when I powered it down yesterday. Today I powered it up and ...

... yeah. Haunted. I give up.
