Ok, I'll do that.

Edit: I sent them. Note: In this version, please put the levels.lvl in the same directory as Tanks.exe. I wanted to do it this way before, but I had forgotten how. I appologize for the inconvenience. Wink
Cool! That's much more handy. What about randomly-generated levels?
The terrain is already randomly generated. I could make the entire color scheme and gravity for each level be random on 2 player and have the AI portion of the game be to beat the solar system (as it is now).

If you didn't notice, I tried to make the color scheme and gravity match each planet. I looked up the gravity of each planet and so in the game the gravity of each planet is correctly proportioned (for instance Pluto has exactly 4% of earth's gravity an so on). I also lined up pictures of each planet against a color chart and attempted to choose the best ones. Smile

Oh, and for the future, ADD an extra extension, do not remove the old one. (eg, instead of tanks.aaa make it tanks.exe.aaa - preferably add '.bak' as that is an accepted extension for a backup file)
I'll remember that for the future. Smile

For the next five days my dad and myself are going to be on vacation, visiting various colleges in New York (up-state) and Pennsylvania. The car rides are going to be rediculous (ranging from 5 hours to 7 hours a day Sad); thankfully, my dad has allowed me to bring his laptop during the trip so that during his half of the driving I can program Tanks Very Happy . I won't be back until Friday, but hopefully, with the enormous amount of time I will have to work on it in the car, I should make some significant progress Good Idea

Unfortunately, my ipod must have found out about the trip and it's gotten all sad (pun intended). The sad face is showing up and I can't boot it. Hopefully, it will fix itself soon because I really don't want to buy a new MP3 player, but this means I will have no ipod for the huge car rides. :cries:
What colleges? Any of the ones I applied to? Smile
I cant even run the prgm in the first place. It comes up wit ha runtime error at the start, how am I supposed to fix that? Confused
Are you sure that you downloaded the levels and put them in the proper dir?
yes, I dont know how I could be wrong, I will try again any.

I'm posting from Rochester NY right now via some unprotected wireless connections if you know what I mean Evil or Very Mad Laughing Kerm, I visited RPI today. Tomorrow, I'm visiting University of Rochester, and RIT. The next day I'm visiting Cornell and Bucknell. Thursday I am visiting Lehigh and Lafayette. So far RPI was awesome, I really liked it. I'm excited to see Cornell and Lehigh, too.

@Swivel: That version seems to just crash sometimes randomly. If you have the current version (at least the one that Kllrnohj posted), and you have put the levels.lvl in the same directory as tanks.exe, then I would just try again. As I explained earlier, sometimes it will just crash. If the crash error is file not found, then you have not put the levels.lvl in the same directory. If it says any other error, than it is my fault and I would just try it again.

I was programming for a good 3 hours in the car from RPI to rochester so I got some work done on the AI and my dad of all people suggested a perfect system for how I can make the ai fire terrible at first and learn from his shots.

I'll see if I can give you more updates from my trip, but I can't guarentee anything because I don't exactly have a stable internet connection Rolling Eyes
thats awesome. My Dad went to Cornell as a grad student. are you gonna look at any colleges in Vermont?
Are you going to make this free software? (free as in free speech, aka open source)
Gonna check out any in NYC? Like Cooper Union, eg? Very Happy
I visited RPI this past weekend. I liked it a lot as well. And for Lehigh, it's a lot of hills (steeper than RPI).
! It would be hilarious if you two ran into each other and didn't even realize it. Very Happy
I just got back from the trip. Wow, those colleges were really cool. The funny thing about them is that they are all on hills. My dad and myself would joke as we were driving to them that we would just have to drive towards the nearest hill and we would get to the college, but low and behold, that's where they were. Laughing Each and evey one of them (with the sole exception of Rochester) were on hills (and pretty steep ones, too).

I liked them all, but my favorites were RPI, Cornell, and Bucknell. RPI was a great technical school and it had a good hockey program I'm looking to continue playing hockey in college, but not at the varsity level. Cornell was huge, and it had a great engineering program (which is what I think I want to study, but I'm not sure which branch. Computer engineering maybe Wink). Plus, who can argue with an Ivy league school. I just hope I can get in. Bucknell had the best campus and the best facilities along with a solid engineering program. These are probably going to be the colleges I apply to along with UMass and Brown. I might want to look into Cooper Union at some point, too. Good Idea

The driving times between these places was outrageous. I was in the car from anywhere between 6 hours and 9 hours a day. Unfortunately, my dad's laptop only had a batter life of 3 hours so I could only use it 3 hours a day during the long rides. Needless to say, I got some good work done on Tank Wars. I made a decent AI that needs some fine-tuning. Also I fixed more than a few bugs Smile I should be able to release another version soon--hopefully by the end of the weekend.

@Kllrnohj: I might make it open source. I have nothing against it, but the code is pretty hideous. I have a tendency to make sloppy vb code (sloppy as in messy, not unoptimized). If you really want I could. It also depends on my partner.
source too?
