Lists can only hold numbers. If you need to store multiple strings and retrieve them by index, there are a few different ways of doing that.

If all of the strings are known in advance, you can combine all the strings together, and then have a list containing where each string starts. Then to get a string at a certain position X, you can just use sub(Str1, L1(X), L1(X+1)-L1(X)).
